See that there are some cow elk tags available in Wyoming. Anyone ever hunt there just for cows? I was thinking it might be a good way to get my feet wet in Wyoming.

I shot the biggest cow elk anyone ever saw, last year up in the Laramie Peaks Wilderness Area. Caught the herd as they were crossing the valley right before a blizzard hit and knocked her down. 750 lbs. on the ground! Holy crap!

If you go and you're around Casper, check on OTC antelope tags.

Unit 75/6 is in GTNP and is a road migration hunt, unit 84/85 type 6 is south of Jackson and requires hikes or horses to get in, all these are dependent on snow to get the elk moving to lower elevations. I shoot a cow each year in 75/6 as I live very close to it. Late season cow hunts can be a lot of fun.

I've only hunted unit 47 up there, but there are plenty of cows. My first time up there was with a OTC cow tag. Got myself a bull tag (it's actually an any elk tag) for this year.

I can't speak for any other areas, but yeah, I think it's a good a place as any to get your feet wet for elk hunting.

My wife and I picked up some area 7 cow tags. Does anybody know good places to check out for cows?
