Manning mulls job offer

09-03-03

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - State Game and Fish Director Brent Manning says he has not decided yet whether to accept a job offer from Illinois.

Manning, who was appointed director by Gov. Dave Freudenthal in March, was recently offered a job to head an Illinois forest preserve district.

Manning earns $90,000 a year in his Wyoming job. He is being offered between $127,000 to $190,000 for the Illinois job.

But Manning said he is still gathering information about the Illinois job and plans to seek the advice of family and friends.

''I love the people (in Wyoming), and I love the fact you can strike a bargain here with a handshake,'' he said.

Before coming to Wyoming, Manning served as director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for seven years.

From the reports out now sounds like Manning wasn't quite truthful in his statements. Sounds like he signed the contract for the new job back in August!! Didn't even live in the state long enough to buy a resident license?
