My buddy and I bowhunted Wyo and he got a nice 4x4, my question is I still have a gen tag and want to go back for the rifle season but I can't hunt where we were because I'll be alone and at 66 yrs old I don't want to try packing an elk out by myself. I was hoping someone could direct me to an area (not a honey hole ) where I can leave my wife at the motel and day hunt within about an hour of town an have a reasonable expectation of finding elk, I have plenty of experience and have packed out my last 3 bulls alone but I think it's time for me to slow down, thank's for any help, Bill

Wish I could help, I am relying on my buddy who lives in Wilson. We are going out First of October into the Gros Ventre range. Somewhere south of Jackson peak is all I know. Tis a shame no one else has replied... But from what I have seen here there aren't too many Wyoming hunters here.

mobowhunter, thank's for the reply, I also posted the same question on Monster Muley's and was lucky enough to get some great ideas of where to hunt along with detailed directions, Bill

You could also look at the Hog Park area near Saratoga or the Snowie range. Used to be some good bulls in both places. In the Snowies Muddy Mt. or Lake Mt. were always good producers when we lived there.

Dirtpoor,

Some of that country can be pretty rough, but the snowies have a lot of roads look on muddy Mt. or Lake Mt. Took a couple of bulls on the ski run above centennial years ago. Ryan Park area also used to have a bunch of elk in it from time to time. Good Luck!!

Thank's Taos, I think I'm going to put off slowing down until next year, I know where the elk are and with a little snow I can dead sled the quarter's out or no snow and I'll just take my time , good hunting !

Try area 37, there is a motel in both Dayton, and Ranchester. Most of the elk will move down off the Mountain, and onto the horse shoe when hunting presure starts getting heavy. There are some good burn areas back by Taylor mine that used to hold elk (Black mountain road)....If you get bored buy a bird lisence, or pay a rancher a tresspass fee.

If you have any more questions get with me off line, and I will ansewer them.
