X12 7 points?

Hey everyone,

I just joined JHO and am new to deer hunting altogether. Last year was my first deer season, hunted D13 Twice and didn’t see anything but had a good time hiking. I put in for X12 and didn’t get it, but got drawn this year, not sure how. Any tips for a new hunter? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Go scouting before season, opening weekend is busy and you'll want to know exactly where to go. Not hard to find small bucks in this zone if you know where NOT to go.

So last year I started a thread askin if anyone with 6 or more points was plannin on puttin in for X12 and if they would be interested in sharing the cost and the experience of the hunt. Needless to say I did not draw it with 6. This year it looks like point creep has me wonderin if I will draw it or not. So I'm puttin the same question out there this year. 7 or more points and thinkin bout X12 let me know. I'm just outside of Bakersfield if that matters. Why are you interested in X12? I’m about 2 hours driving distance from that Zone but I have never been interested in Hunting that Zone. If that Zone opened like the Northeastern X Zones in October that would interest me
I’m more interested in Hunting X3A which takes 5 points to draw. Another really good NE Zone is X2 which takes about 9-10 points to Draw. I drew X3A last year and tagged a nice big 4x4 that BC scored 176
Look at the X2 and X3A stats they have a higher percentage of tagging Big True High Desert Mule Deer. Bucks that are found near the D-6 and X12 boundaries are Hybrid Cross Muley Blacktails!
Look at my 4x4 I shot last year! It’s one of those straight Mule Deer Bucks that roam NE California.

7 points! I'm shocked! It wasn't that long ago 3-4 points was pretty much a sure thing. Anyway good luck going forward.

Thanks! Went out this mornin and got a good 200 yd zero. I'm gettin antsy! A friend of mine has lived there his whole life and helped my Son and I get our bucks 8 years ago, has now got his guide license and I'll be ridin shotgun with him come openin mornin

Don’t burn your points on X12. Check the DFG Stats on the NE Zones that kill the highest percentage of 4 pointers or Better! I always try to hunt X3A . I’m interested in joining your group. I have one point after drawing the tag last year. I shot this X3A Buck last year
