About four months ago, after a few bottles of wine, she promised to go on a hog hunt with me. Yes, monkeys flew out my buttt and hell froze over at the same time. My wife passed the hunter's safety course and we're going to the Pig O Rama at Tejon, March 16-18. Unbelievable.

Yah, I know. But, I doubt her personality is gonna change on one trip. She doesn't dig snakes and bugs and gut piles. I'm thinking she might be into one or two easy-going hunts a year. She figured that if she ever wanted to see me after our kids are grown, she better be ready to go on a few huntin' trips. My goal will be to get her a hog with her brand new .270, and one for me with the bow. If'n I don't stick one by Sunday mid-morning, I'll shoot one with a rifle. I'm not too proud. We'll see.

I'm going huntin' again. Ten days to go. Can't wait. Just wanted to share.

Don't be surprised if she gets one and you don't. Also, one with large teeth!

I don't know what to say. I mean, I sure as hell wouldn't want my girl picking up hunting, she would want all the good stuff for herself, and of course they have to be well known brand names.

Rock on, OneTrack!

That's cool as heck. But shoot fire.. if you start taking her hunting, does that mean you won't be providing the dancing girls for the Saturday night fire parties?

Onetrack,
Good Luck, and do everything you can to make sure she has a good experience.
It took me 12 years to finally get my wife to go on 1 overnight fishing trip to Catalina and she loved it.

Don't forget your Barnes bullets.

Thanks guys. I'm just excited for her to experience what we all are so nuts about. We'll see. Maybe it won't hit her like it does all of us. Or, maybe I'll create a monster, and need to get another gun safe. Either way, I'm gonna make her wear the packframe.

We had Sweet Italian wild hog sausage for dinner. Whenever I cook it, I can't stop asking, "Isn't this awesome?" Or, "This is the best pork I've ever had." And, they kinda just agree. "Yah Dad, this is real good." Now, when she kills her hog, I'm sure she'll be bragging it up come dinnertime.

And, yes, I will be drinkin' beer and chuggin' Jack around the campfire. She'll probably pass out around 8pm, and I'll go find another camp to keep me entertained. Or, maybe not.

I think this is a real good move on your part Brent. I was in the same boat 10 years ago and basically told my wife if we were going on any vacation it would be hunting. I take her on the easy ones where we can stay at bed and breakfasts, motels (though one time we did have a wall tent). She enjoys it and it increases the number of times i get to go hunting each year.

Make it easy as possible and dont try to make her hike up all the hills you will want to go up. The better time she has the more likely you will win her over.
Let us know how it goes.

You'll be the luckest man in camp with a bed partner that will keep you warm and won't cause a divorce.

What's Nate going to do? No more snuggle time before the hunt?

Just kiddin

Oh good-----no more stories of you "spooning" Nate. Ot, like I told you, my wife is not into hunting at all but she went pig hunting with me. Not as a hunter but just as a sidekick. At one point we had pigs all around us. That is exciting regardless of who you are. She loved it. Congrats. Hope all goes well with the experience.Report back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck in taking your wife hunting. I hope she has a great time, shoot or no.

The flying monkeys comment cracked me up.

I think my husband goes hunting/hiking with gun with me mostly because he wants to be with me. He is a good shot but hunting would not be his first choice of a thing to do with his life. He has never shot anything other than quail and pheasant at game farm. He likes the exercise and he likes me being happy. If he ever connects with a pig I will do as much as I can to help him. The thing I am still unsure about is how much is help and how do I avoid taking away the experience from him.
I am guessing you will face some of the same sort of stuff.

As for me, My name is Jean and I am a pig-hunt-holic.

Hi Jean. My name is Brent and I'm a pigaholic.

It will be a refreshing hunt for me. Nate can clear a truck and a tent with on little toot. This will be like hunting in a rose garden.

Good stuff. I think I know a few spots where we can kill and still have a road in the bottom of the canyon for an easy recovery. I should probably bring some dishwashing gloves for when she has to gut the hog.

I remember the first time I met you was my wife's first hog hunt at Tejon. She killed one the first day next to a road and I drove right up to it and I killed mine at last light on the last day in the bottom of you know where and Russ and I spent 5 hours dragging it out while she hiked out calling me every name in the book.lol. Hope you guys have a blast.
