I am just wondering if there are any wildlife biologists for zone D-8 that frequent this forum. I was curious why with such a horrible success rate, why the DFG still issues 8,000 tags every year. It seems to me that the herd could use all the help it can get up there and I think cutting back on some tags wouldn't be a bad thing at all. I was also wondering if there is any type of management plan that would increase the deer numbers.

thanks,

Jason

I'm not a biologist but D8 never sells all of the tags each year. The deer are there, but 99% of the hunters ride around in their trucks trying to find deer.

Hey Kuss, do you walk in from the valley floor? Just how do road hunters ruin hunting for those who pack in miles off the road?

I am no biologist, but I think there is a least three reasons for the problem:

1) more people living in the foothills and more human visitors to the foothills and high country.

2) mountain lions

3) .22s and spotlights.
