Mike Long of Poway caught and released a 20 pound 12 ounce Largemouth Bass at Dixon Lake. The Bass hit a Castaic Trout Bait. The Bass is reportedly the eighth largets Bass ever caught and recorded in the world. Long has caught numerous large Bass but this is his first over 20 pounds. Lake Dixon is in Southern Cal and only covers 70 surface acres at capacity.                     Fubar

What's the record for the U.S. and Calif.

I can't even imagine hauling in something that large. Must be a thrill.

Wonder what test line he way using and how long he had to play it before netting it.

Isn't that the lake that's predicted to produce the next U.S. record.

Way to go Mike!!!!

Jerry  Mike Long has caught numerous large Bass. Dixon Lake was not one of the lakes predicted to caugh up a world record Bass. Most Southern Cal lakes are stocked with trout which the Bass feed on to become giant size. Also the Bass must be of Florida strain. The Northern strain largemouth Bass will not reach that size. The Bass probably didnt put up a huge battle as Mike Long caught it on a trout imitaton lure and was probably using heavier line.            Fubar

Here's a pic  Jim Matthews sent me to go with the story. What a hawg! Eighth largest largemouth bass ever caught on rod and reel. After weighing the fish, Long released the bruiser back into the lake. And Dixon's not even a catch-and-release water.

I used to live in San Marcos, which is right next to Escondido, which is where Dixon is located. Dixon is gin clear and, as a result, the bass are very hard to catch. There are some very, very big bass in that lake, and they get that way by chowing on the planted trout. It doesn't surprise me that it kicked this size of fish out. Man, what a bass.
