Speaking of hunting, I just checked my envelope that I keep the self-registration tags in and it’s becoming apparent to me that not enough of you are calling in sick/ playing hooky to come out here!

As a result. I now have that ugly “no hunting” thatched portion of the lake map between Island View campground and Buck Pasture. (oops) Hopefully I’ll be able to argue that one away soon.
Ranger Joel,

I was wondering what the rationale was for that area being closed since last year. If people were trespassing / hunting on private land without permission, the landowner was within his rights to complain. On the other hand, it sounds like there's better rationale to get it back open. It's a shame that public land had to be "closed" due to a single screw-up.

Accordingly, I would be willing to volunteer to help you post the fence/property line so that the private property and hunt / no-hunt boundary is unmistakable. Send me an e-mail and we can arrange a day to get it done in the next couple weeks. I imagine that other guys who like to hunt would do the same. Please don’t hesitate to ask us hunters for help with your park if there's things like that which need fix'n.

Wello, great report… I agree that the Lake Sonoma blacktail herd has great genetics and is extremely healthy. But I also personally believe that the land is right at its carrying capacity given the density of deer I’ve seen on several hunting trips there in the past two years.

Ranger Joel: I had only run up on maybe 3 other vehicles hunting when I was there on the 26th. This doesn't count boat in guys. Hope they are all doing the paperwork..

BC: Bring yer bow if you go up top or over that Ridge to the South to post it. But you know that of course, hehe..

Man, i've been overlooking this thread thinking that you could only hunt during mid week like last year. Then, I looked through PIGIG's original post and see that all the regs have changed

Weekend hunting doesn't start until December. This month it's just Mon-Wed. I'll be up there in Dec., maybe the 3rd & 4th (Friday-Saturday).

A friend of mine called and he and his wife are wanting to hook up with me on the 18-19 of Dec. for a hunt. They will bring the camper and I'll bring the boat. That's the plan right now.

2004 Hunter Success Information
October/November

Number of self-reporting hunters: 98
Number of female pigs taken: 1, @200 lbs.
Number of male pigs taken: 2, @100 lbs and 150 lbs
Number of hunter checkout cards: 65
Success rate: 3%

Comments:
The number of checkout cards should be the same as the number of registration cards. The assumption I have to make is that all cards that were not turned in indicate an unsuccessful hunt. Success rate was determined by comparing the number of reported hunters to the number of reported pigs taken.

Hunters: Remember to turn in your exit/ reporting tag even if you don’t take a pig. The information you provide and comments are very helpful. Also we received one report of a poacher in the park in the yorty creek area (guy with a rifle not one of the archery hunters). Keep your eyes open and remember to take photos of anything suspicious and send them to me.
