I just visited my taxidermist and he informed me that pig tags were going up in price for the 2004-2005 season. The shocker to me was they were going to be $32.00 each. I tried to confirm his story but I cant seem to find out if it is true or not.
Say it isn’t true.
Can anyone confirm this.

Found this on a previous thread

Beginning July 1, 2004, Wild Pig Tags will be sold individually for $15.75 each.

Sorry for the bad news.

Guys,
I've heard the same thing for the last two years. I usually don't sweat this kinda stuff till it happens but even if it does, It's still not that bad.

Look at all the other expenses we could be incurring, not to mention the trouble with decoding some of the DFG info. This is small stuff.

If you really want to

, I would start about the availability of public land to hunt and shoot on.

Just one Man's opinion.

ya 800 % increase with no increase in public land use not to mention poor game management this is rediculous but it is becoming a big pass time so they have to cash in on it so everyone go but your 5 tags while they last lololol i think my pig hunting days are now numbered 1 pig per year

Come on guys,. Whats 15.75 a tag campared to what you are paying in trespass fees and guided hunts??? Heck, that isn't even the price of a meal in a decent restaraunt these days. Now the expected $3.00 a gallon of gas is something to bitch about. Besides, it was only a matter of time before they figured out they were losing big money considering how popular the sport is. The last three sows I had butchered dressed out at an average of 156lb each. That's a lot of pork for about $45.00 at the new tag prices. Dressed total was 468lbs. Look what a deer tag costs compared to the possibilty that you will get one like this in Calif.

I'm just going to buy 1 tag at a time. If I get a pig, I'll buy another tag. I have to get one first though.

My concerns are not that I will be paying more for my pig tags next season, but only that there is going to be a 756% increases. WOW! What happened between then and now?

Pigs in California have a “no daily bag or possession limit” and a year round hunting season bestowed upon them, this is telling me that the populations throughout the state are “QUIT” healthy.

So why the more then dramatic increase?

Is this increase long over due?

Is the increase because the pig has become the #1 big game animal to hunt in California, so the state can now exploit this information to get more money from the hunters?

Were did the $1.84 per tag money go this year and were is the $15.75 going next year?

Ok I am off my soap box.

There ya go guys,
pbrdog is the example to follow. Personally, I don't want more than 1 Hog at a time. You pay money to the butcher and then end up giving a large portion of the meat away.

Don't get me wrong, My buddies and I always share the meat from a hunt regardless of who's take it is but, who really needs two or three Hogs?
Leave some for the next group.

How else is ole Arnold going to get the state out of debt?

Everybody quit shooting them for a year and they'll have a bounty on them instead. Then you can get paid to go hunt them.

The ranchers down here are begging the hunters to shoot all they can. Our lease has NO restrictions on bag limits OR size. The only requirement is that it has to be dead before we it can be taken off the ranch. The only limitation is the quantity of pigs you want to clean at any one time. They already have an over population up around Big Sur and Monterey so it won't take long. ;-)

Thanks for posting that link, Shot.

This huge increase is a blatant attempt to balance a budget on the backs of the people whose screams are most likely to go unheeded. Nobody cares if the hog hunters are unhappy.

How different is this from the vehicle fee increase?

I had a lot to say about this, but I said enough in that last thread. Rather than repeat myself, I'll stop now.

Just one more reason to get a Life Time licesns with 5 pig tags and a deer tag. Yes the price has gone up this year but if you look at the price from around 1988 it is still less............ and back then you didnt need a tag to hunt pig in CA (the good old days)

As with everything else, the lifetime licenses are going up. Lots of us waited until the last minute and then applied for the license. I applied for the whole shabang. Lifetime Sportsmen License with all of the add ons. $1550.00. But of there are cheaper options to go with.

I am hopping that they don't change my lifetime license now that they are raising the prices. I got the sportsman pakage with the fishing and big game package. So I get my three tags hopfuly for ever. But I still don't want them to raise the tag/licenses price for the rest of you ether. They really do not provide much hunting for pigs or anything else for that matter CA really needs to catch up with the other states and start managing all aspects og the game like lions and doe hunts. I f other states care enough to manage there game with don't the bunny huggers here want to see heath populations of everthing not just heathy lion population eating there kids

Lifetime licence will stay the same if you up graded to the Big Game tags. You will still get one deer and 5 pig tags for life they cannot change that.
