Here are a couple of pictures of a 6x6 elk I took while hunting alone on public land in western Colorado August of 2006. I was in a clump of trees watching a trail at first light that led from a wallow to a bedding area when I heard him crossing behind me. Fortunately there was a small opening in the trees I was able to shoot through as he passed 26 yards behind me. At first I thought I must have missed since he walked uphill in a calm manner. However, after hearing what sounded like an elk falling and then finding my blood covered arrow, I became more confident. I didn't really need to follow the blood trail since I was downwind of where he fell and was able to follow the odor to this ready to rut bull. Ron
