Whoa! Following a conversation with RichW, I just realized that it's only 4 weeks until I have to turn in the application packets! That's right... four weeks from today, all the apps need to be paid and on the desk in Tejon Ranch! So get 'em in!

As mentioned in another thread, I have processed and sent out all of the requests for application packets today. If you requested one, it should be at your doorstep no later than Thursday (should be much sooner).

If you haven't requested a packet, get me an email with the requisite information (read the beginning of this thread) and I'll try to turn it around to you ASAP. We're at 23 paid apps in my grubby hand, and I know of at least six more "for sures". That'll leave room for 21 hunters. There are 65 packets out there. Math has never been my strong point, but it's pretty easy to see that if you want to go, the time is probably now to make the call.

At this time, four weeks from today, I'll be sweating out the last couple hours of work before hitting the road south to Tejon!

I dunno about ya'll... but I'm getting a little fired up!

By the way... anybody know Steve Kennedy?

Yes and on beautiful days like today, I find myself staring off in the general direction of Tejon.

I'm waiting on a friend. Mine will be in the mail on monday, with or without him. If he doesn't get me some cash soon then he's going to have to wait till next year.

OK fellas..

We're up to 31 hunters, and the deadline (May 3) is less than two weeks away! We're down to the short hairs!
<

A few announcements as we go... some of this is kinda blunt. Don't take it personally.

CLEAN UP ALSO APPLIES TO CARCASSES, HIDES, SCRAP AND BONES!!! Take it away from camp and dump it in the woods (not on the road). Do not leave it for someone else. When you finish skinning and butchering, clean up behind yourself or prepare to be publicly chastised. </span>

Oh yeah... as to getting in and out of the ranch.

Last year we did our best to coordinate with everyone who needed to get in or out of the gate (and many, many thanks to those who helped me with this). We'll try to get it together again this year as well. There are a few things to consider though.

First, there will only be two or three sets of keys. I will have one. I will designate someone to help out with the second set. A third set will be held in spare in case of emergency. Those of us who are holding the keys have, like you, paid $400 to be there. We paid to hunt... not to run five miles up the road and back because someone ran out of beer or forgot to bring ice. PLAN AHEAD or rely on our convenience for non-essential items. We'll get you to the gate sooner or later, but be prepared for it to be later.

If you are ready to leave, CHECK OUT WITH ME OR A DESIGNATED PERSON FIRST! I will provide details during check-in on how to go about this. I am responsible for everyone who's come through that gate with our group. On Sunday night, when it's time to leave, I want to know without a doubt that everyone is safely out of the woods. If we don't know where you are, someone is gonna have to go looking for you. That wouldn't be too cool, especially if it turns out that you were home, safe and snug in your bed while somebody is out combing the ridges for you.

We can hunt until the end of shoot-time on Sunday. I have already planned to stay in the area until Monday, so I can wait for any stragglers. Usually, I'm one of them.

If you're ready to leave Sunday afternoon, we will coordinate an exodus... probably around 1300. If you are not ready to go when that caravan leaves, then (depending on who's still there and who hasn't tagged out yet), you will have to wait until someone with the keys is available to let you out. That may mean waiting until well after dark if the last couple of years are any example. If you are hunting the Sunday evening hunt, PLEASE BREAK CAMP BEFORE HEADING OUT. This way, we won't have to wait for you to do that after you skin your hog. You can skin and scoot.

If you're ready to leave early, you are also welcome to go to the gate and hope someone (an employee or leaseholder) comes along to open it for you. That happens regularly. However, if you do that... MAKE SURE YOU'VE CHECKED OUT BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

I'm sure there's more, but I have an appointment to tend to.

I can't wait. 31 is a good number of hunters. Not too many and not too few!

Speck, where do we get maps of the ranch? No GPS here! Let me/us know,

George

The ranch sells maps at the check-in for, I think, $5 or $10 or something. These maps show the main roads and areas, but there are a ton of unmarked roads. If you don't have GPS, I recommend getting several bags of stale bread. ;-)

You can also hit TopoZone or one of the other mapping sites on the web to find topo maps and even some aerial photos (google earth is pretty cool). You might also find someone who's going who can share a map with you. I may have a couple left from last year.

Dilprxo, please contact me. I don't have your proof of insurance for your truck. I know you hunted earlier this year, but I think you still need that for registration.

Hey, this is working out great!

All you guys who made your checks and money orders out to me, instead of to Tejon Ranch... THANKS!

I just packed up all of the apps I've received to date, and as I was going through to make sure everyone has properly completed your paperwork, I realized that there are no less than $2000 worth of checks made out to me. That's pretty cool of you guys! I do appreciate the donation.

Of course, I dunno what you're gonna do when we get to Tejon and you find out that you haven't paid for the hunt yet. But hey... you've paid for mine and four friends too! How cool is that.

It's true...

I almost did that Speck but I caught it right before I started writing your name. Close one! Do you send a confirmation email saying you received my packet? Just curious. Dennis

Hi Dennis,

I haven't really been sending confirmations unless someone checks in. But of course, yours is in there.

For those of you I couldn't get a rise out of with my last post...
<

I have deposited the checks that were made out to me, and will send your payment to Tejon with my own. If you are still planning to attend and have NOT sent your packet yet, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure to make the checks out to Tejon Ranch and Bob Boggs (read the directions). I will not have time to process your personal checks between now and the May 3 deadline.

I know we have been through this once before (ok twice) but it seems that my mother wont be in town for mothers day... Since I already changed the date from originally going with you guys to the later POR I am stuck unless you still have room for three more.

We are already paid to tejon, tags are in and insurance in place... what would it take to get the date switched with you guys?

There are three in our party.
Please let me know so I can call Barbara.

No problem, Rich. Glad it all worked out!

That puts us at around 35 hunters for the event! Fellas, if you're still sitting on your application, you need to get them to me by Wednesday, May 3! There are 15 spots left, but time is running out.

I'll also have a couple of extra topo maps that I printed out on my color plotter at work if a few folks are short on maps. Probably 3 or 4 extras.

Topo....

I've got the 10 disc national geographic TOPO USA - CALIFORNIA edition.

What are the coordinates so I can look up our hunt area??? (And can Google Earth, and download my GPS topo, etc).

Thanks!

You guys who are worried about maps... Like Speck said you can get one at check in time however it only shows like eight or so major roads within a park roughly half the size of Los Angles.

I didn't even use my GPS last trip because fresh sign can be found within a hundred feet of the camp site and roads are taking off in all different directions. One cool thing about Tejon is, the majority of the dirt roads lead to another major dirt road that will get you back to camp or to somewhere familiar. I have a good sense of direction so maybe it's just me but the ranch wasn't hard to navigate at all.

Anyone have a link to a place where I can get a GIGANTIC ice chest to pack a 200lb hog in? I went to Cosco and they didn't have squat, and what they did have wasn't very big at all.
I have managed to save nine 2 liter soda bottles but need to get another couple dozen prior to the trip.

Oh dammit, I'm excited now!

Speck,

Got my packet yesterday and promptly mailed to you all the requirements today.

It's good I checked this forum before I left the office yesterday and read your updated guidelines -- for us slow pooks. It's good WalMart is making blank money orders and put in Tejon Ranch Company on this

VERY MANY THANKS!
