Hey all... just wanted to post this up officially. The window for requesting an application packet is closed since this weekend.

Beastslayer and OZ, I received your packets over the weekend. Anyone else who sent in a paid application last week, I'll be looking for it. If you think I should already have it, post up here or send me an email ASAP.

If you intend to send in a packet... TOMORROW IS THE DEADLINE! Better call Fed-Ex!

If I counted right, we're looking at 36 hunters in our group. That's not too bad.

Those piggies ought to be getting pretty nervous right about now!

That's odd because the Costco by me has an Igloo (the best) about 160 qt for 70.00 dollars.[/b]

I will never buy another one of those $70 Igloo coolers. In my experience, they simply don't hold up under the abuse of a couple of hunting seasons.

Next time I kick out for a cooler, it will be for one of the marine-grade ice chests. They cost significantly more, but they will last many years and still keep your stuff cold.

If you can afford it, spring for the extra now... otherwise, plan to kick out $70 every couple of seasons to replace that lightweight picnic cooler.

My Cosco cooler still keeps everything very cold for a long period of time as long as your not in and out of it constantly. I also know that I can stick a field dressed pig that weighed #275 on the hoof in it whole. But as Speck mentioned, the cheezy plastic buckles just dont hold up. I use a tie strap anyways.

I bougth the costco cooler yesterday. It is a great bang for the buck. As far as the plastic buckles go, I hate them too, but you can buy new ones from igloo for $3.99 a piece and replace them. Check their web page. That way the cooler will at least hold up until the hinges go. That's about 5 years. At that time it starts getting grimy anyway.

My buddy and I will show up with over 450 quarts of cooler space. That should be enough for bringing beer in and haul out a couple of hogs! ;) I also ordered a couple hundred feet of hog casings and my .300 win mag finally came in too. We are all set!

Yea, I just added to the angst. I dropped my rifle off at the gunsmith. Getting a new kick pad put on it and getting the scope checked out.

Now, I have to twiddle my thumbs waiting for it to get done so I can take it back out to the range and try to sight it in again.

Can someone fill me in where we are actually meeting? Where is the check in that we need to be at by 10:00?

We'll motel it on the way down, so we are rested. I'd like to find the closest Motel6.

Thanks, George

George,

Check out the JHO Events Forum down below for a lot of discussion regarding your questions.

In short... 0800 on Friday, there's a gathering at the Flying J in Lebec. it's just past Tejon Ranch on I-5S, the Gorman exit. Hard to miss.

At 1000 on Friday, we'll gather at the Tejon Ranch offices. They're on I-5N, the Fort Tejon Exit. There are signs at the exit to direct you. When you get to the offices, you'll be able to find us.

There will be an orientation at the check-in, and once we've gone through the details we'll head for the gates. Officially, we enter at noon, but that will vary slightly based on when we get through the check in.

Once you're through the gates and a couple miles in, you're hunting. The first couple of miles is a no-shooting zone, but after that it's wide open. The campground is a few miles in.

As for motels on the way down... as I've mentioned in the other forum, the cheapest place I've found coming from the Bay Area is one of the truck stop motels at the Wasco/Lost Hills exit from I-5. These rooms can run from $30 - $50 a night. If you hit the area late, though, it's possible the rooms will be full. From this exit, it's about an hour or so to the ranch, or the Flying J.

If you go on to the foot of the hills at Grapevine, there are a couple of motels there. Rates at the Grapevine motels run around $85/night. The Ramada Inn offers a Tejon Ranch discount, but I'd recommend that you call ahead and make a reservation if you're gonna stay there. Tell them you're hunting at Tejon for the weekend.
