I went back and read the Thread, sorry but I didn't know that you were ahead of me when I posted that. I have a bear tag sitting here, and my jet boat is gassed and ready for salmon fishing on the Sacramento River. The Chromers are about to arrive.
What is interesting to note is that Bobcat Ranch along with the other popular hunting areas in Yolo County are part of The Mountain Lion Foundation's Proposition 117. The Habitat Conservation Fund created by 117 ensures that 30 million for 30 years is dedicated to protecting habitat.
Here is the list for Yolo County:
Bobcat to Blue Oak Ranches Riparian Habitat Restoration
Cache Creek Riparian Restoration
Knoxville Ranch Wildlife Area
Lower Putah Creek
McAravy Ranch Wetland Restoration
Northstar Urban Nature Trail
Putah Creek Nature Park
Sacramento Valley Rice Roller Project
San Joaquin/Sacramento River Acquisition
South Fork Reserve
West Yolo County Water Management and Wildlife Habitat Plan
Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area
Map,
My dad can out-hike most of the guys we hunt with and I'm talking about guys as young as early 20's. Most of the places we go to require dedicated group hunters. Having one fall behind will pretty much ruin the entire trip. We always make fun of how fast he is able to traverse from one ridge to the next. As for the Bobcat trip, I'm actually looking forward to it after hearing about L2H's trip with his dad.
Actually, there is an opportunity to scout Bobcat Ranch ahead of time by hiking with the National Audubon Society. However, it would be kind of like being a "Wolf in Sheep's Clothes.". Kind of naked without a weapon in lion country, too!
I was with the US Overseas Mission in Laos and worked in the jungle with real Tigers, like the ones we have in our zoo. After surviving that, I guess I could survive a hike with the Bird Watchers? But, it would be scary.
Here is my cell phone boundary for Bobcat Ranch. If anyone wants to upload it into their GPS or Smartphone application, click on GPX under the right corner of the Map Pane .
That is not the boundary for the hunt zone of the Bobcat Ranch. That is the entire property boundary. We have contractually provided the SHARE pig hunt for only about 4,000 acres encompassing the western side of the Bobcat Ranch.
Yes, I kind of knew that there wouldn't be hunting along the eastern boundary where the houses are backed up to the fence.
I just went back and cleaned up the eastern fence line using satellite imagery. There is a lot of Birding, Nature Walks, and Hiking going on at the ranch, so figured that we needed a better GPS Map then the one that the National Audubon Society has at their site.
I make my own maps, so if you give me a description of the eastern boundary of this year's SHARE Hunt I will whip one out for you.
Guys, if you already downloaded the GPX File and want a more accurate eastern fence line, then go back and download "Bobcat Ranch Satellite Plot. GPX"
Any one heard of any pigs being taken yet. I will be out there chasing them Thursday morning. Depending on what I run into I will be hunting for the first five or so hours Thursday morning and then hitting it again on Friday. Unless work is slow I will be in there all day.
Did 8 miles this morning before coming back to the office. Saw about 15 deer, five of which were bucks and three that were bruisers. It wasn't until about 10:30 that i found good pig sign. Think I may go after them in the morning. There is very little water on the ranch right now. Two guys hit the ponds on the east side of the ranch and said there was little to no activity at them.
