I had this nice boar in one trap this morning. He weighs about 150lbs.

In another trap I had these 2 BBQ boars ... weigh about 80lbs.

I think the acorn crop has dissapated ... making it a little easier to draw them to corn.

The top brown one could be a good addition to the gene pool of California wild hogs.

Do you castrate the boars for fattening? If not, how is the taste of the meat of uncastrated Texas boars?

I don't. But I might in the future just to keep their attitudes in check and their weight gain up.

I prefer the taste of wild boar ... not barrs.

No Texas can keep their ferel hogs, and their curly tails. We'll keep ours with as much Russian as we can over here.

I live in Gilroy,Ca you guys are right who the heck cares of the tail is curly or not. I understand what he is trying to say about curly tails I harvest a few hogs every year on public and private land. California has its share of feral pigs from poka dotted stuff to black russian/European. And Ive hunted in texas when I was stationed at Ft hood texas, Killeen. Its all good curly or stright. I'm from Hawaii and we have a little of Both in waianae Mountains. RN Its neat that texas is not strict as it is here in california. Paying $16 dollars to get a fricken tag Now thats something to talk about considering the amount of damage these critter do. Lets go to RN"S place and hunt.

Is that $16 per tag? Is the tag good for more than one pig? You might get voted out of office if you proposed a tag fee of $16 per hog here in Texas.

You read it right RN it used to be $7 dollars for 5 tags now its $16.80 to be exact. For 1 pig. I need to drive over to your place some time and help clear up some of your hog problems. Not to mention every Tom, Dick, and Harry here in California trying to compete for the best public land hunts which is over crowed which shoot at moving bushes thinking its a hog but could have been their buddy. Which recently happen in the santa cruz mountain in Santa Cruz, ca few months back.

Cajackrabbit, you got a lot to learn about euro hogs, black dosen't mean russian,Wool baby is what you are looking for.Minus the curley tail that gold hod could be clasic 'San Diego' euro hog.Russian boars are an urban myth,Polish maybe but not russian.Do a little reaserch outside the marketing thing and you would be surprized how domestic your hog really are

Nice pigs. There must be a ton of wild pigs in Texas. Will the population explosion of pigs happen in California?

I was always under the impression that straight tails indicated a bloodline of "MOSTLY" a european/russian pig. And that once you get curl in a tail that it has a lot of domestic-gone- wild pig blood in him.

I never indicated that the pig has to be black to be a russian or euro hog either.

The areas that I hunt, on the Central coast don't seem to have any pigs with curly tails, I have never seen one, either dead or in the wild. Colors, we got them all and I've seen wooly mamoth pigs to pigs with razorback characteristics.

I just have never seen a farm/domestic pig with a straight tail.

But in no way do I consider myself a pig expert.
