State Department of Fish and Wildlife officials on Monday and Tuesday released 3 million juvenile salmon at the mouth of the American River in Sacramento.
Scientific aide Justin Mather guides thousands of juvenile chinook salmon, or smolts, into a holding tank Tuesday at theNimbus Fish Hatchery, where they were raised. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife released 3 million near the mouthof the American River, in hopes that they will return in greater numbers than when they were trucked to San Francisco Bay.
A sea lion cruises Tuesday at Discovery Park in Sacramento. Three were seen near the salmon release.
