Yesterday, my husband came home from his reprobate uncle's house with a dog, allegedly GSP (but his scruff suggests otherwise), swearing we were just going to find him a good home. Chances are, that good home is going to be ours. The dog is about 6 months old, very mild-tempered and blessedly quiet (we have two other dogs: a little terrier mix and a Husky/Lab mix, both of whom enjoy singing the songs of their people), and has no training beyond "sit". But he points and seems eager to listen, so I want to make sure the next steps we take with him will be as beneficial to him as his next owners (again, likely us).

Now despite having multiple dogs, I am not much of a dog person, and my training know-how is lacking. I got lucky with the Labksy, (also acquired from this same uncle), he picked up flushing and retrieving with almost zero effort on our part (the terrier followed suit out of jealousy), and can discern between game birds and tweeties. How do I train a pointer? What should I be focusing on? How can I integrate him into the Bad News Bears-esque upland team I have going on right now?

I havnt had a dog in many years. I only had one hunting dog so my experience is rather limited . hopefully someone on here with lots more experience. I did train my one retriever who also hunted upland . I read a lot of books by a guy named Richard A Wolters. He preached natural methods with no shock collars or treats . He was really good. My dog was a very good retriever and had plenty of of flaws as did his owner! Good luck with your pup .
