Alleged poachers arrested in wake of hatchery fingerlings' release

Using nets, perforated water jugs, hidden compartments and the cloak of darkness, poachers are carving a dent in this year's population of young salmon – in some cases mere hours after hatchery workers release the fish into the American River.

Juvenile salmon like this, raised at the Nimbus Hatchery near Folsom and released last week into the American River, were illegally taken for use as bait, state game wardens say.​
