Anglers might need sled dogs for CA trout opener

Unless a massive warming trend starts soon, the Eastern Sierra Trout Opener set for April 30 is going to include ice fishing and walking snow-packed roads and trails to higher elevation spots such as South Lake, North Lake and Sabrina west of Bishop.
Gary Olson, owner of Bishop Creek Lodge for the last 20 years, said the snowpack is at 140 percent of normal in the Sierra. And with 3 feet more predicted to hit this weekend, it's going to be a very white trout opener.
"That little tackle shop at South Lake, we can see the top of the antenna on it," Olson said. "The Parchers Restaurant, we know it's there because we left it in the fall, but it's covered."
