Has anyone ever seen antelope at Carrizo while hunting for coyotes? I think this year I'll put in for all the big game tags and when looking at last years big game booklet noticed there was Carrizo hunt for antelope?

I saw 4 or 5 when I was up there about a year ago. They were in the flatland roughly between the two campgrounds. Good luck if you put in for tags. I think they only offer 1 buck tag.                  Scott

I think I heard that the Carrizo hunt will be closed for 2002, seem they feel the herd isn't doing to well.  I believe that they will discuss it at the April 5 DFG mammal regulations meeting they will be holding in the Long Beach council chambers.  Maybe there are to many coyotes, at least that's what it seems to me.

The herds arnt getting any bigger due to the coyotes hammering the fawns. The cowboys at the twisslemans said the same thing.

Just got the Tracks book today.  No Carrizo hunt this year (and most likely going forward).  There are some nice bucks up in the Lassen area though...

Sounds like we need to get out and hammer as many yotes as possible. :hammer: ... As JHP'ers I think it is our duty to drasticly reduce the amount of yotes roaming our state. Sounds like a plan to me.

Yep time to take out some yotes. How's the action been up and around you're neighborhood Songdog? Can you guide me to some ares in the NF by you. Next week I'll be working in Santa Clarita and now that we have some more daylight I might try a set up after work.

The month of May is booked for me, but June is still open, maybe we could do a weekend coyote hunt early June to Carizzo?

Just got back from the Carizo's about an hour ago. I saw 13 lopes this mornning. ONe small buck.

That's to bad about stopping that hunt. A friend of mine took a 15-1/2" buck there last year. Real heavy horns. I've seen some 16" buck there in the past. One I had my eye on that  seems to have dissapeared.

But I do agree that the heard is diminishing. I think poachers are taking a toll just as much as the yotes. Although last year I killed two yotes that had a small buck trapped at a fence corner. It was quite a sight. Those dogs were so intent on killing that buck that they never saw me. The last thing they heard was my .270 barking at them.

I know last year someone was killing both Antelope and Elk and just leaving them lay to rot. I'd like to do the same thing if I caught them.

And by the way, I spent last night there and still no yotes to be found.

I was at Carrizo today and saw 4 lopes. 3 small bucks and a doe. Hope this is a sign of things turning around.                    Scott

<font face="Tahoma">I attended the JHP coyote hunt this past weekend and while the coyotes went into hiding, the antelope were everywhere.  I saw my first three about 1 mile in.  Grtwhythunter & I came across a nice group of 8.  I saw another 4 on the way out.  Just seeing them was worth the trip.  Jesse got lots of photos.  </font>

I think the darn yotes must have known better than to run around with all of you out there, and the lopes knew that they were safest close to you all.

My .223 is still waiting to get its first dog, I need to get out there and engage in some population control.

I couldn't make it this past weekend, but definately want to protect the antelopes for future regulated hunting.

I hope the animals get even with those poachers some day. As much as I'd hate to see an elk go this way, it would serve him right to get one through the windshield, antlers pinning him to the seat.
