I was looking through some record books and I noticed something strange.  One man seemingly killed 2 bucks in 1995 in the same unit in AZ.  One of the scores is 84.0 and the other a whopping 93.3.  I say to myself, "This can't be the same buck, the scores aren't even close.  All the measurements are way off."  The only thing I can think of is that maybe he got drawn for a tag and also bought the Arizona Governor's tag, but then why not enter the two seperate bucks into both books instead of one in one book and the other in the other book.  Or maybe it's just a serious typo, but by which book?  Does anyone know anything about this?

I'm not really that knowledgeable in this area, but could it be that there were two different scoring systems used?

Well...Yes.  Two different scoring systems were used.  SCI and the Arizona Bow Book.  This is the thing.  The individual measurements aren't even in the same ballbark.  The prong measurement on one is 5.2 while on the other it's 7.2.  Even with 100 years of shrinkage I don't think it's possible for a bucks prong to shrink this much.  The length measurements are way off also.  One's 16.1 and the other is 17.0.  The base somehow went from 6.3 to 7.2 (or vice versa).  For this to be the same buck he'd have to be seriously deformed somewhere and with the given measurements it doesn't seem likely.  He would also have to have been put inside a microwave to get his length to shrink up almost an inch.  Weird.

I followed up with my intuition and contacted SCI.  It turns out that through some error the same buck was entered twice.  The newest book has already been published, but in the future books there will be only one buck entered by Les Shelton.
