Now that I'm finally through cutting meat, I'm trying to get these pics posted up from the trip two weeks ago.

What's cool about these photos is that we get to see something a lot of us don't get to see often. A bunch of really nice bucks just after they've shed their horn caps. Some still have them on. Notice the bucks with the little black candy corns sticking out - without prongs.

Yeah, from what I've seen they start to shed in mid-late Nov.

Yeah, saw a couple.

For deer habitat with generally low antelope numbers, at least a couple hundred that week. Deer were in the hundreds per day. Not kidding. That includes driving to and from hunting areas, private land, etc. But still, very good on the eyes.

What area where they in? WY just cut their Antelope tags greatly (again) and it doesn’t look like my family and I will be able to draw a tag this year. I heard the Montana has a pretty easy Antelope tag draw.

Does anyone know good area in Montana on public land?

I don't know about "easier to draw tags in MT" but there are a lot of units with all-time high numbers of animals and a few with surprisingly low numbers. It's worth keeping track of these changes and taking advantage.

This is in S.W. MT. The S.E part of the state is much more like WY (grassy plains) and where I cut my teeth on antelope as a kid. The very best thing you can do is pick up the phone and spend a few minutes talking with the great folks at the department of fish and wildlife. They will tell you which areas have the best numbers and odds for drawing, access to public and private property...the whole ball of wax. Deadline is March 15th - end of this week.

There is plenty of public land to hunt antelope. And if you don't draw your buck tag, there are a lot of units with excess OTC doe tags. All things the MTDFW will be happy to help with.

Fossilman, we talked before and I spent quite a bit of time in your neck of the woods as a kid. I need to get back there. Just a couple more hours each way.
