Antelope question.

Here's a question from an ignorant easterner...I've heard that pronghorn bucks shed their horn sheaths every year like a deer would shed it's antlers? True or not???

yup they do. It's kinda like how a snake sheds its skin so it can grow.

For a short time then the bucks run around with pieces of bone sticking outta their heads with no outer sheath?

No not really, cause the sheaths are actually hair. Very dense hair. The outer sheath falls off because the new hair is growing in underneath it. The new hair forces the old sheath off.

They are the only animal on earth that does that.... supposedly. I also heard that Pronghorns are not true antelope but a unique specie. They aren't too smart because they will not jump a fence. They will run along a fence until they find an opening like a gate. I seldom see them even go under a fence. Makes for good hunting if you know this trait.
