Ahh 2008 is not over and I am already pondering the possabilties for 2009. With 2 Points in the Bank in WY, I am wondering if i'll be lucky enough to draw a good antelope Unit with plenty of public land. Anybody planning any cool trips in 2009 for some speed goat?

Love to hear about them.

From the research I have been doing you should be able to draw a sweet tag with 2 points. I have enough points to draw a premium tag in Oregon but I'm trying to put something together in Wyoming to take 4 nephews in 09. We have no points for Wyo so we will be kind of limited to what we can draw on public land. There is quite a bit of opportunity with the walk-in areas & HMA's, also trespass fee hunts. I hunted out of Buffalo 20 yrs ago and paid the landowner $25 per animal plus the coupon but I bet it's a lot more now. I may have an in on a ranch near Laramie in 45 but if not I'm thinking about Newcastle or Lusk over on the east side. I don't really care about trophies, just showing these guys a good hunt in an area without a lot of hunting pressure. I'm open to any suggestions.

Some of us Kansas guys may be going up.... Three of us went in '04, and I went by myself and tried bowhunting in '06. A couple of us are planning another trip for next fall.
Can't remember off hand what unit we hunted, but we stay in Medicine Bow. OR186 is correct when he talks about the HMA's and walk in areas, not to mention all the BLM land that can be hunted.

Word of advice. Personally if I drive over 10 hours to get somewhere to hunt... I want to do some hunting. Don't shoot the first buck you see. Have some fun, hunt a couple days, glass a few bucks, then decide which one to shoot.

I swear to God, in '04 we watched a guy that drove from Minnesota.. shoot what I would call a below average buck(maybe 11") after 5 minutes of hunting. They left town before we did, but were hunting the same area as us. We drove up behind them just in time to video tape him doing the ditch sneak while his buddies sat in the truck. He crawled about 50 yards out toward a bedded herd. stood up, and plunked a buck. Game over.
Not my kind of hunting, but effective I guess.
