Anyone going to the lake to hunt over the Thanksgiving holliday? I plane on being there, hopfully the pigs will be to. I am going to pull the trailer into Liberty glen and stay for 3 days. Has anyone ever stayed at Liberty glen? Do I need to reserve a spot? Thanks Buck

Gyopo:

I recall a quote from a great American Historian. I forget exactly who and I admit I am paraphrasing somewhat, but it goes a little something like this.

And to this end we pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred buckets.

A friend met me at Sonoma last Dec with their camper and we camped at liberty glen. i don't think finding a spot will be a problem this time of year. One guy was there and hunted right out of camp. I may come up Sat. not sure though. I'm fighting a cold I got from my little one and doing a lot of coughing. Wouldn't be too good to do during a hunt.

Well we got back from the hunt. first day we spoted a Salt & pepper hog about 1/4 mile up on the hill sleeping in the sun, I stalked up to 15-20 yards of him, he was behind an old brush pile and the wind was in my face. I had a few twigs in the way and was thinking about taking a step to the left for an open shot and before I could move he jumped up and ran off. I think the wind shifted a lil. He was laying head down hill away from me so I dont think he spoted me, but thats hunting. My son was watching from where we spoted the hog and said it looked cool. We seen about 15 hogs mostly on the side you cant hunt. But they are there. good hunting BUCK

I didn't make it up. Still had a cough from a cold I had earlier in the week. Figured it wouldn't help me or anyone within 100 yards of me get one. With my deer hunt at Fort Knox in KY on the 10th I probably won't get up there until after Christmas.

Hunt reprot

Went out Wed-Fri (Nov.30-Dec. 2). Rained like a mother on the night of the 30th. Heard some hogs fighting on the other side of the lake at sunset. Some fresh sign and a pig bed that was dry in a rain storm. Must have pushed him out. The next moring was a light drizzal and we hunted hard all morning. No fresh sign and no sightings. The third day was sunny and bright. Rain the previos night was hard and washed away all the older sign. Found fresh sign that morning in four areas represetning large groups of hogs. Finally bumped a large bedded boar but had no shot. He'll bed up there again and next time I'll be ready.

The groups of hogs appear to be bedding on private and moving onto the Army Corp lands at night to feed in the meadows and under tan oaks. I think our best
chance will be catching them out in the open at first light or getting lucking and jumping a bed. They apear to be pretty noctornal these days.

Good afternoon all,
I just ran the numbers for November and here is the break down:
Number of hunters participating: 212
Number of male pigs taken: 4
Number of female pigs taken: 2
Success rate: 2.8%
Way down from October’s high of 15%

One hunter reported case of seeing someone with a side arm. (Thanks for keeping out eyes pealed!)
No lost hunters…Yet. ;-)
I would like to apologize to those who showed up on a day when we did not have permits at the visitor center. We will try to put more outside.
Joel Miller

P.S. Remember that hunting is permitted on holidays.
Come on out!
