Hey all,
I just got finished running the numbers from the December hunts.

149 hunters participated
4 Female pigs were taken
1 Male pig was taken
Success rate was 3.35%
Four of the pigs were taken by guys who seem to hunt up here regularly and one was taken by a new guy.
Way to go!

PIGIG:
No sweat man you got way more stuff goin on than most three guys do so I can see how you might miss a whole month. Since I'm all laid up with this knee and I have to go recuperate in Maui until the 30th. i don't miss january anyway.
Miss January? now that's another thing all together.

If I ran 149 hunters thru my ranch and only took 5 pigs, I'd be out of business.

RangerJoel, do you keep tabs on how many hogs were wounded and lost?

But Sonoma is FREE dude but they dont have a cabin, a great host, pigs eveywhere, and if you ran 149 guys accross your property we would have more guys than pigs shot

Hey all,
The data I post is based on the information that you guys turn in on the registration cards. So only kills are counted. This data could be skewed by hunters failing to report kills or exaggerating. (But only fishermen lie…) If I really wanted a high success rate, I could have a USDA trapper come out and get a bunch of them, but where is the fun in that. Besides, when have you ever herd of the government making money on a project? (the Bureau of Printing and Engraving does not count.)

Rangerjoel,
I have never been to Lake Sonoma but really appreciate the helpfulness of Rangerjoel.
He provides good information and has a welcoming and concerned attitude towards the hunting public. We thank you and appreciate your service, Rangerjoel. God Bless.

Howdy all:
Here are the numbers from Januarys hunt.

289 Hunters took part
8 male pigs taken
6 female pigs taken
Success rate of 4.8%

On a side note, A guy stopped by the visitor center today and asked if we were aware that there was a Bigfoot sighting in the park. I was directed to the internet link below.

bigfoot

We’ll see about expanding the hunting season to include these next year!

I just got back from Sanoma around 3P.m. and I hunted from liberty Glen camp all around to Madrone point and back on half a caone loop trail, Friday. Saw 18 deer Quail and some pig sign but no pigs. Then today I walked from lib glen camp to the north all the way to the back gate I think that it is called Rancheria creek. I saw no pigs but I did see some turkeys and some deer and one cyotye. I don't know where the pigs are but they were not where I was.

I also saw about 10 other hunters, including some dumb guys that were in a boat with the moter tilted up guning it and berly moving in the mud at the end of the lake. I watched them for a while and once I had laughed my self to death I went on.

In total I walked about 11 hours and saw no pigs.

The only pig I did see was driving too the lake in some guys front yard pin,

Ranger Joel, will the BigFoot season consist of bow and crossbow only or could we use firearms? How about dogs? Can we bait?

Good morning all,
I just got done running the numbers from February and they are not very good at all.
273 Hunters participated.
3 Female pigs were taken
1 Male pig was taken
1.4% success rate. (really bad! I think the state wide average is somewhere around 4%)

Contacted 1 hunter for hunting out of bounds on the warms springs arm. Remember if you are carrying your bow in a closed area, you are considered to be hunting. (you don’t need to take your bow with you if you are going to the bathroom!) The report came from other hunters. Good work guys! No tickets were written and it was a good opportunity to talk with the “confused” hunter.

Loggers Camp continues to be a active area. I know this because one of the rangers was charged by a pig while surveying storm damage at the campground. One ranger was at the bottom of the hill in the campground checking restroom conditions. He startled a nearby group of pigs who charged up the hill where the second ranger was working. Ranger number two had to seek protection behind a tree as the pigs passed! (ranger No. 2 is now “a little jumpy” in the field and seems a little more high strung.

Big Foot Method of take for next year’s hunt will include:

Big rocks, greater than 1 Lb. but not to exceed 2000 lb.

Long pointy sticks, fire hardened only.

Atlatl (take that Pennsylvania!)

Ford F-250 (the traditional hunting weapon used for this type of game)
