The guide is Roger Miller and he is located in Parkfield, CA. He's the owner of a ranch and currently has a "pig problem, but no hunters." I was referred to him by Nolan Twisselman. I initially contacted Nolan but he is not having much pigs action at the moment and is not currently booking pig hunts.

$600 gets you 2 days of guided hunting, field dressing and cold storage of your game. Additional pigs run $500 and trophy boars go for $1K.
I'm planning to leave So Cal NLT 1:00 PM Fri, this should put us in Parkfield, hopefully NLT 6 and give a few hours of daylight to scout a little.

My buddy just canceled on me so I'm really looking for someone to split gas, driving and a camp site with.

Any takers?

Thanks for the insight. He has good reviews and comes highly recommended from Nolan Twisselman. I feel good about my chances here.

Still looking for someone to tag along. Camping is fun but not when you are by yourself.

I heard that's a great property for pigs as well but those prices are scaring the day lights out of my wallet!!! Good luck out there.

Thanks!

I Talked to Cindy Van Horn of a neighboring ranch this morning. She said her and some friends took a 300# sow a few weeks ago. Said that she hasn't seen many pigs and in that 2 day trip out, saw only 6 including the sow. She also admitted that she didn't 'get back there a lot that she needed to do some scouting.' The ranch offers 2 day unguided hunts for $275. It includes lodging on site and cold storage. You are responsible for your own transportation while on the ranch.

I told her that I may be interested in that and asked her to go out and look for some fresh sign, to which she agreed to do today and get back to me.

If there is fresh sign, anyone interested?

$275 unguided with lodging? Is that a trespass fee? Additional kill fee? I'm interested!

DISCLAIMER: some of the things I say may be unfiltered, offensive, or even complete B.S.

That's correct. $275 covers the trespass fee. I'll ask about the additional kill fee when she calls back. Glad to see some interest here. I'll report back once I hear from Cindy.

OK, So I Cindy called and said she wasn't able to get back out to do any scouting. Cited some family issues and had other pressing matters to tend to but she did offer to let me come and check it out myself for $137.50.

I'm gonna pass on this because I have some better hunting opportunities at the moment but I let her know I would post the offer and she said it's extended to all of you. Here is her contact info for anyone interested. Lemme know how it goes.

I'm back from my successful hunt! Harvested a +200# boar!

Summary:

Fri night arrived around 1700, just in time to change over, sight in my AK and change over for the evening hunt. Went out, saw some pigs but got winded and saw no more.

Woke up Sat and was hunting by 0600, saw about 30 pigs, but no shots. They were on a neighboring ranch and never crossed the property line. Found a couple of beds and got some lessons in finding and tracking sign. Went back, got some range time in, napped, ate and went back out at 1830, saw a train of +50 pigs, took a shot at a moving boar, took a shot with irons on my AK and missed high, scared the rest of them, hunted til dark but saw no others. Chesty Puller rolled in his grave when seeing my lack of marksmanship.
Sun morning woke up, packed up, went out for the final hunt at 0530, spotted the same group of pigs from Sat and caught a lone boar about a 1/2 mi ahead of the pack. Got into a nice ambush position and waited for him to come over the hill. This time I was using a Weatherby 280. As soon as he got into range, the guide stopped him by making some clacking noises, I took my shot and hit him in the gut. Chesty, rolled over twice.

I knew I had hit him, so we picked up the trail, I unholstered my XD45 and we took off into the bush, I heard some branches cracking and spotted him about 20 yds ahead, seeking cover in a group of dead trees. I readied my pistol and approached slowly keeping him in my sights, he started clacking and readied to charge. I had closed the distance to about 10 yds and kept myself in a position to evade using cover. As soon as he bowed his head to charge, I put a .45 hollow point right above his left eye, he gargled his last breath and dropped and my cherry popped!

I couldn't have asked for more, I got to shoot him with a rifle, and with a pistol. The pistol headshot was the highlight of the hunt.

Thanks. I'm proud to say that I am now part of the club and on the board with my first kill!

Good job. Way to get it done

Congrats!

Thanks!

Very nice, now you are addicted??!!

Thanks, yes, I can't wait for my next one.

Awesome hog!

Thank ya sir. This was just what I had in mind. I wanted a boar with a little tusk, not too heavy to avoid trophy fees and gamey meat. This worked out well.
