I was recently considering applying for a Arizona NR OTC Archery tag. Ive never hunted AZ before or heard of this opportunity, so I decided to pass on it this year until I learn more.

Has anyone here any experience with this hunt? Any advice, as always, will be appreciated, thanks.

Been doing it for 40 years now. NR tags are limited to just over 1700 tags…..first come first served in November. They sold out this year in 4 minutes.

A few close early (Aug/sep), mostly near towns like Prescott, etc. The desert units will usually be open…..a few close in December. Really depends on which unit(s) you’re looking at.

Since I have no experience in AZ I wouldn't really know a Unit best suited. I would be coming from CA, so something close with a decent chance. I am older, but I live at 5,000 ft and hunt above that.

I love AZ! So happy when I cross that state line. Leave this miserable state behind . I smile when we Get gas for 2/3 price . Just a beautiful wide open state . We bird hunt there a lot, I've started getting points for deer and turkey once I retire. We have seen some very nice bucks in the desert , during dove openers. they are running away from all the shooting. My guess is they are much more hidden during deer season .

The AZ fish and game has great descriptions of every unit. Just look at the unit map and type in unit.... to Google. it will likely turn up the info for the unit including game available ... quite a bit more useful than ours I've found. As with any new Adventure there's lots of research and reading . Then just plan a road trip . Get a tag and go for a ride ! Pack lots of survival gear and stick to main roads. Man there are some tough roads and not as many rules to tell us not to be stupid. Love it!
