OK,
First off, I thank all for the commments it's very insightful.
Ideally, I would like hog #1 150lbs or so (max).
I have pretty much given up on deer here I like does they taste better to me. Since there is really no doe hunting here its a lost cause.
I don't want a big pissy, smelly, non-eater. I don't care about the teeth or antlers as long as their not in me.
I don't like to waiste and won't kill it if I'm not going to eat it.
Thats just me and I have nothing against anybody else doing whatever they want. We all love the sport and have our own approach.
The last time I did was a Colorado buck in 82 and I still butchered it ground it up and at least fed my dogs (minus the backstraps) through the winter but it's not about the killing for me.
So public land or not I'm still choosey.
I love the outdoors and if I can bring something home to eat all the better.
That said I wouldn't hesitate to take a 90 pounder.
I found some one piece fixed blade broadheads while up in Bakersfield at Second Ammendment Sports.
They're Eastman Outfitters 125 grain titanium 3-blade Tri-Loc Lightning.
I'm putting them on my Black Hawk Vapor 3000 arrows at 7.9gpi.
The arrows are 28 1/2" long knock to insert 30 1/4" Spade tip to Knock.
At 28 1/2" that's 225.15 grains plus 125 for the blades 350.15 grains?
I don't know if gpi includes fletchings and inserts?
I haven't shot them yet but with my mechanical broadheads I had to buy a paper target with multiple bulls to put on my yellow jacket target block because I was shaving the fletchings off of the other arrows at 30yds as per my yardage pro rangefinder.
I know hunting is different than target shooting and with angles low hanging branches and junk to manuever around it's almost never an ideal shot but I'm confident with my shot placement.
Until I can get some heavier arrows and (ugh) workout so I can crank up the bow to around 57# and learn to shoot comfortably at that weight I'm going to go with these and see how I do.
I'll let you know and post photos if I score.
I saw signs yesterday but couldn't stay.
I was supposed to have a vessel arriving today.
Being self employed is fun but it really can screw up the schedule.
Now it's not coming until Monday and the same place I went to in Bakersfield yesterday wants me back on Friday.
Just enough to screw me up for the JHO FHL hunt.
It rained up there today, maybe I'll see fresh sign and tracks on Friday.
ev, if I score I owe you a ham

billrob....i say shoot whatever poundage is comfortable to you on your bow. Plenty of animals and much bigger than a hog have been killed w/ bows under 57#. Best of luck & when you whack one, take some great photos to share w/ us.

I deleted all the garbage from those still trying to hijack this thread. The penalty box is open for those who didn't get the message the first 2 times.

the topic is arrow penetration on hogs. If you can't follow the theme it's best you move along to another thread.
