I'm a lousy hog hunter and I'm the first to admit it. In years past I hunted for hogs with a passion. But as time went on and I kept coming home empty handed, I gave it up. Deer were easier. I still deer hunt the same areas and occasionally see pig sign (I think) but I don't actively pursue them. There were plenty of pigs being taken in the area but not one person said, "hey, come with me" or I'll show you a trick or two. So its been 17 pig free years and 17 wonderful deer seasons.

So, just when I had almost completely put hog hunting out of my mind, I stumbled across JHO and began to get interested again. As a result, I think I'll go on a POR with my JHO brethren and ask lots of dumb questions, and hopefully tag along with someone that knows what the hell he's doing, 'cause I certainly don't.

I sorta wish someone would have helped me out long ago, then it could have been 17 great deer AND pig years at Dill Pickle Canyon. I'm sure there are plenty of guys out there will do the leg work, if they just knew how and (generally) where.

i would hire a licensed "guide" to bust my cherry on them hogs, there are many here on this forum that would probably help the
"wild hog' challenged, as stated before in hundreds of posts,by the time you pencil out all the recon,it might be cost effective...
just a thought , hope it does not offend anyone, im hear to help, carry on

Wow this is one very long thread but as a new hunter myself and eager to get any kind of info that might help or teach me something I am truly glad I have read this and now fully understand why most people are so vague about there spots. I just want to say thanks to all of the experienced guys on here that a willing to pass along some of there knowledge to those of us who don't seem to have as much field time as others. I really wanted to say thanks to MapMaker for passing along his KLM to those of us who asked for them even when we didn't know that our our questions could negatively affect the community as it can. I know I have been one of the newbies that have asked for some of your personal info to hunting spots and I would like to apologize to anyone that I might have offended and hope that you more experienced guys will maybe help out those of us that want to learn the sport so that we can go find our own "honey holes" and try to repay your kindness.

I'm not picking on anyone in particular LD, the rudeness is in several forums and by more than handful of members. Speck said it best, it's not that some don't want to give up their spots, it's just how they convey that message. The forum here is, or was known as a helpful place to ask questions. I get many emails and PMs thanking us for the help. Recently I've been getting emails and seeing posts from folks who say they no longer post or are reluctant to post because of the welcome they get or rude responses.

Bottom line, throw the new folks a bone once in awhile, you never know what good things can come back your way once that new person finds their way.

Flatbroke, I'm glad you're here to keep the mood light. You crack me up.

I see the makings of a JHO Hog Hunting Clinic in the near future.

Jesse, quit trying to butter him up, you know you're just trying to get the locale of his hunting spot.

I have asked for advice and help a few times from members.... I hope no one thought I was asking for their "honey hole".

At the clinic can we all get in a circle and give each other one big man hug?

Bret, I wasn't talking about Lake Sonoma. I was inviting you to my private property... Good Luck out there

Keep your man hugs to yourself, mister.

Dan, join us at the JHO hunt and I'll be glad to try to put you on hogs. What I'm afraid you'll learn, though, is that everything you thought you knew about hog sign and tracking was right... but the difference between success and failure is simply knowing where they are, not where they were.

The folks here who kill a lot of hogs have figured out where the hogs are. That's called a honey hole, whether it's private land or public. Once you've found it, if you take care of it, it will produce and produce again.

When you're talking about Tejon Ranch, you're talking about a 270,000 acre honey hole.

WOW! dang Bret I was about ask the same thing but while srolling down i noticed you already asked. I would have done the same thing.

Im kind of new to hunting too and it is very frustrating at times not knowing when or where to go asking myself if i should buy a new tag this year but this year i think im learning a bit more seeing lots of signs and having more patience compared to last year. Now im thinking i should of asked first since your getting lots of offers and help now. Good hunting bro.

to EVERYONE here this is an apology in advance if i ever ask a question that i really shouldnt have.

As the greenest member of this forum, please let me say that I am happy for any info - including info that might help me avoid being unintentionally rude - either here in the forum or in the field.

Personally, I would rather have someone share information that helps me learn how to be a better hunter who can find his own spots. No way do I expect someone to share their favorite spot that may have taken them years to find.

I am just grateful for all that you folks have shared here!
