Becoming an Outdoors-Woman fly fishing and Dutch oven cooking workshop

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Becoming an Outdoors-Woman, California is offering a spectacular workshop where women can learn fly fishing AND Dutch oven cooking. What a combination! The Fresno County Sportsmen's Club has generously offered their property to host this workshop scheduled for April 16-18. Close to Fresno, but off the beaten path, the Fresno County Sportsmen's Club is a real jewel. The club offers 13 acres of lush green riverfront property with a fabulous log cabin-style clubhouse. There are plenty of shade trees, a well-kept lawn, picnic tables, barbecues, and restroom facilities. We will be camping on the property which will accommodate tents or RVs.

During the day we'll learn the basics of fly fishing from our expert instructor, Deb Cox. She will be covering casting, reading the water, entomology, conservation, knots, landing and releasing, and plenty of hands-on practice. If you ever wanted to learn to fly fish in a beautiful place, this is the workshop for you. All fishing equipment will be provided.

In the late afternoon we'll learn the magic of Dutch oven cooking from our knowledgeable chefs Joyce and Augie Pando and will be cooking our Friday and Saturday night dinners at the same time. Once you learn to Dutch oven cook, you'll be digging a pit in your back yard so you can Dutch oven cook at home...I did! Joyce and Augie will cover how to build a fire, different types of ovens, cooking times and temperatures, and more. And the best thing is we get to eat what we cooked so, dinner is served!

The workshop starts at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 16th. Arrival time is any time before 12:00 noon to set up your campsite and have lunch. After your registration is received you will receive an e-mail with all of the information you will need - directions to the club and a suggested list of items to bring with you. A California sports fishing license is required.

The cost of the workshop is $250 and includes access to the Club, dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, all fishing equipment and instruction. There is still space available in this workshop. To register go to www.bowca.org. You can register on-line or fill out a registration form and send it, along with your check, to the address given.
