mr_eisma,

I received your Comment, but I don’t know how to use that forum feature. At the bottom of my Profile is my Private email. If you click that one I will receive a private email from you. Then I will reply with a small KML file attached.

The hunting area boundary that I have made up is Ahupuaa O Kanana State Park for Google Earth. My wife and I were planning on hiking there, so I have it ready to send to you. After receiving it, all you have to do is “Open” the little file that I send using the File Menu and it will fly over to Kahana Bay and zoom-in to Hunting Area “C”. When exiting Google Earth click on “Yes” to make it part of the program. Otherwise, you will have to load each time.

If that KLM file will work with your software I will work on some of the others. By the way, if any other JHO’ers want to try Kahana with Google Earth send my an email.

Sorry guys, but AOL has "File Guard" and wont let me send a KML file. Here is Hunting Area "G" for mr_eisma, so he can get started hunting and scouting. When I zoom-in there are roads and trails.

I just tried sending one file at a time, and they went out okay. Will wait and see whether he get them?

Yeah, that's Unit G. Notice the ridge in the lower right area. You get out there when it is still dark and hike towards it, and you will see goats up there on the ridge. It is steep and pretty high, a wrong step could be a serious mistake. Also bring plenty of water, it gets suuuper hot up there.

HIhunter,

I also made up a KML file for Waianae Kai hunting area “D”, because it's close by. Wonder if mr_eisma should try that one? In the Google Earth pic below Area “G” is out on the horizon. You guys can have a copy of the KML files.

I haven't tried the Waianae Kai spot yet. Goats are fun to hunt because of the hike and the challenge of getting up there, but I'd rather fill my freezer with pork. On this island I've only seen them up above Peacock Flats, which I don't mind telling everyone because it is a bear to get up there to hunt. Its a 10 mile 4 wheel, slow going, or a 4 mile hike up the side of the mountain. I think of it as an overnighter, try to hike up on Friday night, set up camp, and then spend saturday morning hunting. If catch, come down, if not just hang out up there for the weekend. I'm planning on hiking up there next weekend with my girlfriend, I'll be sure to post if I am successful.

HIhunter,

Thanks for the info, and I will try to find Peacock Flats. My wife hikes with me also. She is a much better follower than some of the guys I hunt with. When I zoom-in to the Hunting Area “D” with Google Earth there is about a dozen little blue squares titled “Hike to Mt. Ka’ala. When I click on them I get some pretty good pictures of the hunting area. Looks good for a beginner. The long arm looks like only goats would be there?

Those are my back yard. I'm a Waianae local but lived in maile beach we use have some one drop us off kolekole pass and come down. But its for the young and crazy. Did it once in my teens and won't do it again. My Dad use to work at kaena point tracking station we use to drop down right below the big golf ball to the wind ward side. You need alot of water coming down when we got down we swore to never do it again as the rocks is trecherous and the keave tree torns will penetrate a good pair off boots. We had long sleeve T shirt w/tanktop in the early morning. We saw alot of game but hey had 4 legs and we had bum or beat up leggs by the end of that trek. But as I look back at those days it was kinda adventerous.

Look on the map above Unit E, Peacock Flats is near the "X" which marks the check-in station. Better of you have a 4x4 to get into the unit instead of hiking from highway. This is one of my favorite bird hunting areas due to an abundance of Peacocks which are just Turkey in fancy suits but just as wiley.

Okay, thanks. I found it on your Oahu hunting map. How did you save a (JPG) image from the Hawaii Fish and Game Adobe file. The best I could do was to put the Adobe image on the Clip Board and paste it into the Paint Program. The image was so bad that I couldn't find Peacock Flats.

Hi, I'm new to Oahu and wanted to say thanks for the maps. I'll have a license in a few days.
Look forward to doing some bow hunting here.
