Well, I had set up earlier in the week out on the Tables near a waterhole. Opening morning, I sat in my blind for a long uneventful morning. Sometime around 9:30 am I must have dosed off. When I woke up and peered through my porthole, there looking at me was the new archery state record antelope. At least 16 1/2" long with great prongs/mass. As I tried to revcover, the smart ol buck took off and never returned! I hunted this hole for several days with not other success except for smaller bucks.
After several days of hunting, I gained permission to hunt some private property near Davis Creek where it bordered BLM land. The first morning, I saw this buck and shot an arrow at 40 yards. The buck whirled, and I committed a bowhunter's nightmare.....a wounded buck. The arrow grazed the shoulder blade and entered the neck area. I was sick, even though I saw the anteople a few days later feeding in the area seeminly unaffected by his wound. I was determined to hunt only that buck. Luck must have been on my side, as I eventually got a shot at the buck and put him down within 40 yards. I was very relieved and thankful!
Thanks to all those who gave advice on the area and I hope you enjoy the photo. I had a great hunt with ups and downs.
Good job. I am impressed and proud of you chasing the wounded buck instead of going elsewhere. I am glad you were rewarded accordingly, he is a beauty............
