BOW Offers Beginners Canoe and Kayak Instruction June 14 at Nimbus Flats, Rancho Cordova

Contact: Susan Herrgesell, BOW Program Coordinator, (916) 653-7448

The Department of Fish and Game's Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program has teamed up with California Canoe and Kayak to provide the best in canoe and kayak instruction on Saturday, June 14, at Nimbus Flats in Rancho Cordova, east of Sacramento. Cost for the workshop is $50.

Instruction for Beginning Canoe and Kayak begins at 9 a.m. and will end around 4 p.m. Participants will learn the best methods to enter and exit the boats, and practice various strokes that will glide the crafts quickly through the water. California Canoe and Kayak will provide all equipment, including personal flotation devices or life vests.

Everyone is encouraged to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat or other sun-protective clothing. Sponsors will provide drinks and water, but participants should plan to provide their own sack lunches. Participants are also encouraged to bring a change of clothes and shoes, since getting wet is highly likely.

Reservations for the popular beginning canoe and kayak instruction workshop are recommended. To sign up for this workshop, contact Susan Herrgesell, BOW program coordinator, at 916-653-7448, or download the registration form at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/bow/registmedform.pdf.

BOW is an award-winning outdoor skills program sponsored by DFG, dedicated to providing outdoor educational opportunities to women in a supportive environment. The program offers two three-day workshops per year and a number of specific topics or Beyond BOW classes. Participants must be 18 years of age or older to attend.
