Boy did I blow a great pic.

I was in Missouri turkey hunting and one evening before dark Tinhorn and me were driving around looking for deer and turkeys and all of a sudden on the right the perfect scene came into view. The sun was setting and the light was flat on a real grassy hillside with an oak timber background. There were 4 deer feeding, one fawn was layinng down in the grass. Nearby a tom turkey was strutting for a couple of hens.

The view we had looked like a painting, so I hopped out of the truck and my camera wouldn't focus right away since I had the tele on and the auto focus sometimes takes a minute to track right. I kept messing with the zoom on the camera and I could see the deer were still looking at us and getting nervous even though we were at least 1/4 mile away. Pretty soon the deer flagged their tails and ran over the hill spooking the tom who flew off. If I had gone to manual focus right away I would have gotten a couple of shots.

I've missed plenty. Even worse, I have taken some great shots only to find out later they were not recorded (no film in camera - duh!). About the situation you just had, I have been thinking about getting a window mount for the camera, since the critters don't seem to get spooked until I get out of the truck. Maybe one of the rigs used to mount binos when glassing game from the vehicle would work. WB

Jesse,

Man I miss them all the time. Worst I can remember was chasing a sunrise. Sun was coming up and the sky was HOT. When I finally got to my perfect sun rise spot, it had passed. I drove like a maniac trying to get there though.

I have done it to. I did get one great shot when I just happen to have my digital with me. It was a sunset though. Here it is.

Jesse, I've done the same sort of thing. I play fumble fingers with the camera and blow a shot of a lifetime. I'm notorius for it.lol

Jim, I've done the exact same thing chasing a sunset. I live down here in the Piney Woods and our visibility is pretty low. I was driving like a mad man trying to find a pasture with a view.lol I missed the whole sunset and I drove home sulking.

Thanks TX, I had to get up on the roof of my truck to get this shot. I just happen to have my camera and my tripod in my truck. I was checking my game cams after a june thunderstorm and was heading home and as I came out of the woods (Still on my lease property) I looked over and saw this beautiful sunset. I had to hurry up and get everything set up. About 30 seconds after I took this picture it was a different color. As you can tell it was just about dark.
