Looking for a pair of binoculars in that price range. 8X50's or something close 42's, 45's any one have any opinions.?
Here is what I am looking at, the
Brunton Eterna 8X45 vs. Alpen Apex 8.5X50 vs. the Kahles 8X42.
I looked at the Brunton's and the Kahles so far and the Kahles seemed much brighter and clearer in the store at least.

I am new to hunting and know nothing about optics......any advice would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS!
PAUL B.

What I have found with optics is you get what you pay for and sometimes less. Look through this website and read the basic education articles and reviews. It may help you make an informed choice: www.betterviewdesired.com

I would also look at Leupold/Wind River, Nikon and Zeiss. Nikon has a lot of price points and some seem like pretty good value for the money.

Alpen is absolute crap... won't even make a good boat anchor.

Brunton is making a good name for themselves in the bino department, but I can't vouch for them personally, except to say that I looked at them and passed. One of the best values is the Nikon Monarch ATB's... run you about $220 for the 10x42's (and they are waterproof).

Now if it's a Bruton compass you're want, I've got the top of the line $350 version (the Swarovski verion of a compass) and nothing comes close.

I had my fiance get me a pair of the Nikon Monarch ATB 10x42's for my birthday last year, and I've been really happy with them. Their a nice size; not too big and not too small. They have a nice, bright field of view, and even brighten the image up vs. bare eyes around dusk.

For that range do yourself a favor and get yourself some Zeiss classics. They are good glass at any price.

Thanks for the info everyone. I got the Brunton Epochs 10.5X43's. Just got them today, so far I really like them especially for what I paid $500 brand new.
