Took my boat the "Stress-Relief" last Tuesday and my daughter and I managed to get for keeper halibut to 17#s. The 17 pounder was caught by my daughter. She caught her two first ever keeper halibut on this trip.

Nicely done. I went out last weekend and we landed two fish: a 23 pound hali and a 12 pounder along with a limit of rockfish. It's that time of year. Going out on Sat out of Gaviota for threasher.

I definitely kept the Halibut with the exception of the barely keeper (22 1/4") which I released. The halibut fishing in the Santa Monica Bay has been pretty bad in the last year to year 1/2. Would get 1 or 2 fish on occasion with an occasional good one 40.2 punder last October, however the great fishing where we would get numerous 15# + fish with 3-5 fish per person are gone. I hope it's a temporary thing that will recover. I'm one of those hardcore halibut fishermen.

where can you fish for the flatties without a boat, off of a jetty or breakwater or pier, with some consistency. or is the boat mandatory. i am close enough to any of the oc or la beaches.

Tinner,
If you are in So Cal., try the pier at Gaviota State Beach. South side near the end.
