MORE DFG MISTAKES: On our Turner's Outdoorsman hunt this past weekend, we had two hunters who hadn't hunted hogs this hunting season requiring that they try to get a book of pig tags for the 2001-2002 season which ended Sunday 6/30/02. None of the sporting goods stores had them. Two shop managers I called last week told me the DFG asked them to return the old tags when the new ones arrived in May. There were still more than two months of hog season in May, and many hunters don't hunt hogs except in the spring and early summer. The DFG needs to encourage license agents to keep all tags until the last day of the season has passed. Thankfully, the Tejon Ranch had tags.
SHORT TERM LICENSE: The DFG needs to have a two or three day non-resident license that would be valid with hog tags. The current short term license is only valid for birds, small game, and varmints. By allowing hogs to be taken on this license, it would encourage more hunters from surrounding states to come to California to hunt wild hogs because costs would not be so high. That would help generate revenue for the DFG, and I'm sure a lot of hog guides would also benefit.
