MORE DFG MISTAKES: On our Turner's Outdoorsman hunt this past weekend, we had two hunters who hadn't hunted hogs this hunting season requiring that they try to get a book of pig tags for the 2001-2002 season which ended Sunday 6/30/02. None of the sporting goods stores had them. Two shop managers I called last week told me the DFG asked them to return the old tags when the new ones arrived in May. There were still more than two months of hog season in May, and many hunters don't hunt hogs except in the spring and early summer. The DFG needs to encourage license agents to keep all tags until the last day of the season has passed. Thankfully, the Tejon Ranch had tags.

SHORT TERM LICENSE: The DFG needs to have a two or three day non-resident license that would be valid with hog tags. The current short term license is only valid for birds, small game, and varmints. By allowing hogs to be taken on this license, it would encourage more hunters from surrounding states to come to California to hunt wild hogs because costs would not be so high. That would help generate revenue for the DFG, and I'm sure a lot of hog guides would also benefit.

It was hell trying to find tags for our hunt on the second weekend of June at Wild Hog Adventures.  One guy who was driving a semi from Oregon ended up having to find the DFG office in Redding to get his out of state license and pig tags, and ended up pulling into Hollister at about 9 PM.  I went to 5 different stores in So Cal in May trying to find pig tags, and they all said that they were sent back to DFG - I though they were lying to me!  I finally found a set at K-Mart, of all places.

They need to be available until the end of June!

I know that if I didn't have to buy a $100 license that I would come over there every year to hunt pigs. Arizona does the same thing here. You can't hunt Javelina or over the counter archery deer on a temp license either. I think that is wrong.
