For all who will be at camp roberts for the may hunt, I got some intel for you. The weekend of the hunt, EOD will be in the impact area making alot of noise. For you that have hunted at Bob you know this will be a good thing. A lot of pigs live in the inpact area , and it will force them into the river bed and the open hunt areas around it.
So good luck and hope to see you all there.

Is the May hunt you are referring to the one over the Memorial Day Holiday? Is Camp Roberts open every weekend for hunting??

Can you have non-hunting visitors with you? is it like FHL where every hunter can have one visitor?

can't wait to go after them

Don't think you will see anything cda55, but you will HEAR everything. NOBUCK, ANNIE(His Wife) and myself will be up there for this hunt too. I'm hopeing to come home with at least a couple limits of trout. Sure would nice to find that Big Bore we seen the last time we were up there though. Need to break in my new Browing Bar II Safari .270. It needs a quick kill behind it to break it in. Hopefully will see a few of you up there.

Hey Boar Tracks,
Will they be BOOM'IN all weekend? I ask 'cause I will only be there Sunday & Monday. Last time we were soooo close to them, but didn't get any, and my daughter REALLY wants a pig.
Also, is it a good idea to push through the thick stuff, down by the river bottom, during mid-day, or are they only near the river at dawn and dusk?

BLASTMASTER,

Just to give you a little insight on that thick stuff down there by the river. I hope you have about 6-10 guys ready to go in. The last hunt we (three of us) tried that and the darn pigs wouldn't move. You could hear them in there but they were not coming out. I'm not saying it will be imposible, but be prepared. Some of the hardest and thickest Stuff I've been through. I have to say after the first morning, a persons best bet is to get back in the hills and scope until you see.

Yeah, last month we had a line on some out by Deer Trail, but were told that there were pigs that hunkered-down and stayed in the river bottom also. I didn't believe him. All the traffic down there, and I thought they would be travelling up those "pig hiways" I saw heading into the range areas soon after light. I'm just looking for some mid-day options, and after last month's 3-from-the-bush extravaganza, a mid-day river bottom push sounds reasonable.
Thanks
BTW, I always seem to over-analyze.

To all who are going to do THE PUSH, just be safe. I don't want to get a call from the MP's saying the hunters are going crazzzzzzy, shooting everything that moves. I know all of you JHPers are not like that, but you should see the things I've seen happen there.

All that aside, I hope that you all have a safe and fun hunt at Camp Roberts!

Always, always identify your target before shooting and know what is behind the target.

Those shotgun slugs could kill a guy or at least cut a man in half.

Good luck all, be safe and take lots of photos.

Speaking of the Push, does anyone know how bad the poison oak is at Camp Roberts?

We're ready!
After earlier cancellations, my daughter not only passed the hunter's safety course, but she excelled! She was announced as the top shooter (above me as well) in the class. She won a prize after tagging a 1 sqft plate at 200 yards with a 30-30. She did great!
Then the nightmare began. Walmart & Kmart had no Jr. license for her to buy. Big 5 only had 2003/2004 stuff, and the manager there said that they would still be good since they had to return the 2002/2003 stuff already. We bought it all. Then, I started doubting him, and called Turners. The girl there said "NO, you must have 2002/2003 stuff still". Well she has the Jr. License, but no tags. After several more calls, we located 2002/2003 pig tags about an hour away.
I never worked so hard, but now we're ready. Look out piggies, there's a very determined 12 year old on your tails!
