First time I've visited this particular forum in JHP, as my interest is perking up on Antelope this year. I have a potential hunt lurking out there in October, so I thought I'd start learning by reading some of these posts. I thought I'd post a couple pics you guys might appreciate. The first is a lope we saw near the north end of the Carrizo plains just last weekend. He was all by himself, and his horns looked to be about 12-14". Not massive, but nice. The photo doesn't do him much justice, only is 6x digital zoom. I was at 125 yards and walking toward him before he took off. I took a couple of other pictures, but this is the closest (when he started moving), so it's the best photo I could get of him. Before he started taking off, he scraped the ground pretty hard, sprayed, and let me know he wasn't happy with me being there. Mighty handsome critter, wish the camera could show how I saw him in the 10x binocs.......
The other photo is of one of the most unusual lopes or for that matter, headgear on any animal I've ever seen a picture of. The critter was taken by a friend of mine who lives in Colorado, and the lope is a Colorado critter. The right horn curls down and back almost into the eye, curling vertically. The left horn curls odd also, and in, but horizontally. It was quite a prize, so I thought I'd share it with you antelope affeciandos and hope my friend doesn't mind much that I'm posting his interesting lope pictures.........
