Hi All,

Growing up in the midwest, I was a bit spoiled when it came to maps and atlases for public lands for hunting and fishing. After living in CA for 5 years, I absolutley love it here, and love the HUGE amount of public land, from NF to BLM, to State of CA wildlife areas, etc, it's amazing. However, it's a bit tricky to navigate some of the areas, especially the parcels closer to where I live (Pleasant Hill). I don't want to trespass.

In the midwest, a lot of states have a "Sportsmen's Atlas" or Gazetter, that outlines each public area with nice detailed maps showing the property lines, usually a plat map, fishing access, hunting access, etc.. Here in CA, you're lucky to find something online, but I haven't found anything comparable in terms of an Atlas, or guide. For example, MO has a great online tool at this website: http://mdcgis.mdc.mo.gov/website/regulations_maps/viewer.htm
Plus, they have a great print map set, spiral bound. I know MO has the best funded conservation department in the nation, too bad I didn't realize it when I was in college there, that was in my non-hunting days

In Minnesota, we have a similar bound map.

Anyway, my question is, is there something comparable for CA? I love maps, have BLM, NF, NG TOPO!, DeLorme Print Maps, CA guide to hunting on public lands, quail guide, etc, and have found some maps here on JHO and at CADFG, but they just aren't what I need. I can't seem to find if each county has online plat maps. Since I tend to roam around Knoxville WA, I started looking for Napa county, but so far no luck. Mostly, I'm just looking for some new areas to explore, and since my hound dog is not a hunter (German Shepard mix from the pound), it's all walking on my own.

Anyone have a good source of public maps besides what I have listed? Should I start a side business creating a "California Public Lands" atlas? I know we have a big state here with lots of land, but how do we know where all of the boundaries are?
