Grats...great shooting, man, can't wait to get back there...you sure as hell deserved this one with all the hard work and effort, and putting up with stuck trucks to having to deal with hot salsa
Thanks guys. It really was a great weekend wish the crew was together for this one. I think we finally broke the full moon myth. Im pretty sure Rich W would have scored but he had bow problems preventing him from hunting the last morning/day. BTW Budda, Rich made some good fixin's to rival your Asada... might need to have a group hunt /dinner cook off real soon. Rich thanks again for the fine cooking.
Yes I will be getting this one mounted. In fact Pigig was kind enough to store it over night in his freeezer and drop it off at the taxidermist this AM.

I think they're just so confident in their safety when I'm around that they walk right out there for me. But one of these days, I'm gonna find one with a ten-ring and bullseye on his shoulder... then it'll be all over.
Congrats Jason that is going to be one you'll have on your wall for the rest of your life!
It was a great weekend at Chopper's. The first and last days were clear and sunny, but the day we got our hogs, it was rainy, foggy and cold. Jason had his hog down by 8:30AM and I met up w/ him around 9:30 to help haul it out. We both just stood there looking at those huge cutters in amazement. Jason definitely earned it....believe me I was hoping to get a good buzz on after a long days hunt, but Jason wanted to get some rest and hunt hard every day.
We tried to check-in w/ Chopper, but we were out of radio range. We were on our way driving to his house to skin it out when we drove by the swamp. We stopped and glassed for a couple of minutes and spotted one. I was so excited I think I grabbed my bow and all my other crap in a couple of seconds and started to run. I started down the hill w/ Jason staying back to give me directions....anyone that's been in that muddy swamp can testify that it's easy to loose where in the heck those hogs go when you've just seen them a couple of seconds ago. It worked last time we were there w/ Bubba, Chopper and Pigig watching, so we tried it again.
I climbed 2 fences and tore my bibs, oh well, had to break them in anyway. The wind was howling in my face and the hog was behind some briars and big green bushes in a ton of black mud. As I walked closer to where I thought it should be I looked back at Jason for any help. He motioned that it was right there just over the briars. I stood there looking through the brush being quiet and figured I'd have to stay there until it came out because I couldn't go any further without crashing through a bunch of briars. All of the sudden I heard something grunt about 6-8 feet from my feet. There he was, just trotting along without a care in the world. I pulled back my bow (thanks again Arrow Slinger) and waited until it cleared a briar and let it go....THWACK and then a hell of a bunch of squealing started. I knew he was hit hard, since he was only 8 yards away and I could see the bright red, frothy blood spurting out. The Tekken II 125 grain (with the extra cut blade kit) broad heads tore a nice hole in him and I found out later that the arrow in the picture had sliced through 4 ribs, a lung and spined him. He was squealing like crazy, but still fighting to get up. Since this was only my second hog, I wasn't sure if I should stab him, fling another arrow or just wait. I wasn't sure how long he'd last, but I know they are tough animals so I decided to sling another arrow. It went completely through him, but he wouldn't die. I gave him a couple of more minutes and decided for another one to finish him off. That did the trick. All 3 shots were kill shots at close range w/ a 66 lb. bow; damn they are tough.
We pulled him out of the swamp, gutted him just before the buckets of rain started pouring down. We took my little guy and Jason's monster to start the fun process of skinning them. It took Richw, CopperJohn, BigTusker, me and Brian to cape that beast. I had never seen a "plate" before....WOW. No wonder so many of those big ones keep on going after good shots. That plate was so thick and tough I couldn't believe it.
Thanks Pigig for slicing and dicing those hogs last night, we appreciate it. I was exhausted today, but still can't stop thinking about how much fun it was and when I can get back out there again.
That's outstanding!!! Great shootin' and great hogs. I think that is the best boar I have ever seen, and with a bow, I'm speechless. Awesome job, and great photos.
Wow!! Well done guys.
CJ, How far did the boar go after the shot?
What type of broadhead?
YB, How far away was the boar that you shot? Heck of a bloody mess.
Broadhead type? Is that arrow your lucky one, b/c it looks to be diff. than the
quivered ones.
Maybe I oughta switch to Skoal.
Thats a real Nyce'n! I gots to gets back up to Chops soon...no deer, no elk, only little birds this year...gots to do some killin soon! Nice work boys!!!
