We could have scooped them up, and the boys really wanted to take some home too! (alive I mean) I guess we could have tagged a couple, but for me, it's the same thing as quail. Nothing wrong with quail, but I'd rather hold out for a turkey.[/b]
Yeah, there's times when I'm quail hunting and I wish a big ol' ostrich would walk out in front of me. Never seems to happen though. Too bad the seasons don't coincide

I mostly surfed left spot and a bit at the south jetty[/b]
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
I love left spot, wave gets ridicuously good.[/b]
Milibu/Ev, I lived in LosOsos from. Iv'e surf the spot, the canyon, the jettie and everywhere else there fromPismo to Willow Creek since 84. Only at the spot a few times in the last three years though. We may have been in the water at the same time. Now I know for sure that CalPoly is the reason all the good spots got ruined by over crowding. Juuust kidding. You guys have just as much right to be in the ocean as the local growns. Just like you had the right to shoot that little pig Ev. I took about a 20 #er several years ago so I could rotisserie cook it. It was great eating! I would do it again to. They are feral animals that shouldn't be given the same consideration in some ways as native. From a game management point of view it may have even been a good thing. From a conservationist point of view it is one less pig tearing up the land causing errosion that also leads to intrusive plant species growth like Broome that grows in disturbed soil from rooting, less consumption of acorns so the deer, tukey and other native critters that need them have them, more reproduction of oak trees, and less fence andcrop damage to name a few. IMO you learned correctly that the pig numbers should be kept down. Probably since Hawaii is ahead of us in realizing how detramental they are to the ecosystem in large numbers they are in the long run. It takes a long long time to see the true impact of introduced species. Don'e get me wrong pig hunters I'm not saying it is not fun having them around. I see no differencein killing it at 10lbs or 100lbs. It 's just a feral pig that is why it is legal to kill em no size, no sex, all year round. From a biological point of view they are the stepchild big game species. Maybe buckfinder just needs a high population to be successful. You did good. Keep your head up.

Buckfinder...<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
Many people get the terms "ethical" and "legal"[/b]
In this case I think you got the terms ethical and moral confused. By trying to prove what an ethical (honorable) hunter you are and what the meaning of ethical is you overlooked that fact that the term moral is synonomous with ethics. It is generally considered socially immoral to impose ones own personal morals on another in the manner that you did. With all due respect that your slanderous attack on Ev is un-ethical. I can see where you may be upset and think you should voice that opinin but you discredit yourself when you go about it that way. I'm not perfect either and I know I've said some opinionated things on here that others didn't like either so don't go calling me names too. I don't take constructive criticism well but I hope you do....HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR OTHERS WHEN THEY ARE WITH IN THEIR RIGHTS, GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE, AND TAKE A PILL!

Oh ya.. Spigholie was my second choice for my screen name. His comment on the little pig would have been "Tastey!"

Blastmaster,

You should have scooped them all and planted them in San Bernardino mountains. Saves us the trip up north -- and lots of gas money.

Oops! DFG's big brother maybe watching and listening.[/b]

(and that's all I have to say 'bout that)

Although I whole heartedly disagree with EVB and his practices I will be the first to admit that I was a little hard on the guy. At least EVB justified his upbringing compared to many other (15-25 yr old) posters who did nothing but chime in without actually reading the subject at hand, nor offer us with any information related to "pigs" or "pig hunting".

"I don't take contructive criticism well but I hope you do." Quote of the year-Crittergetter. I figured a reply is warranted to the man who makes statements such as this and decided to "test" him on his finest of quotes.
The following are quotes by Crittergetter, which in my opinion, should have the average hunter concerned for the game we pursue:

"I realize hogs are living creatures that deserve a certain amount of respect"

"I will take any shot I can at a pig"

"Even if it is with a 17, but I wouldn't expect to kill it"

"To me what I'm hearing is pigs have feelings too and we should kill them nicely. I say BS just kill em"

All I can say is WOW! What planet are you from? You try and tell me about ethics and morals, but coming from someone who makes comments like this....well, you'll have to understand if I take them as useless bits of a demented opinion. I assume you shoot pigs. Why would anyone hunt an animal they have complete disregard for? I'm still not sure why anyone would shoot at a pig when you weren't trying to ethically kill it? At least EvB and his friends didn't let their four pounder suffer.

I am so far from your "type" of thinking that I'm having a hard time imagining what you would say to any young hunter. So, I put myself in your shoes for a minute and pretended I was talking to my son or one his friends:

"Go ahead son and shoot at that pig. It doesn't matter if you don't kill it, nor does is matter that you are using a weapon that is underpowered to consistently kill the average pig. They aren't native species anyway.

Crittergetter, I just hope your ready to respond when junior or his friend surprises you and says-"this doesn't seem ethical".

....You guys better be careful out there when you shoot small swine. I mean, it isn't like they breed like rabbits or anything. We all need to be careful with this fragile critter or there won't be any hogs left.

That's great! We'll be looking for you! (in a good way hahaha!)
We hadn't been since last November. It sounds like there may still be some bigger ones wandering about, so good luck! We'll be down at the tracks too.

I've shot a quail on the ground more than once. But ain't never shot a baby pig or killed a pink butterfly.

When I was about nine or ten I was rabbit hunting with my grandfather. Had a brand new(to me) .410 shotgun. We came upon a mama bobcat with a whole bunch of kittens. My grandfather shot the mama with a .22; and told me to take care of the little ones. Don't remember how many I got, but I chased them for about an hour and used up most of a box of shells before grandpa got tired of laughing and yelled at me to come back.

Can't really say that I have a problem with killing small pigs. Knew a feller who lived up by my cabin who had permission to tresspass several ranches full of hogs. He really enjoyed it for a while, but he actually got tired of it and stopped hunting them. However he always had a .22 in the cab of his truck, and he would stop and shoot the babies if he saw some while commuting(just let mama run away). Said they were good eatting.
