Nice opener on Saturday. Cooler weather, saw less hunters than last year. Went to the far North end of the D11 zone to start the morning hunt. Only spotted a couple deer after the sun started shining on the slopes I was glassing. Moved locations (to different canyons) to glass a few times, nothing else spotted. I wasn't going to do the evening hunt because I was supposed to pick up my son from the Burbank airport but his plans changed. I had already left the mountain and was headed home when I decided to give one more spot that we have harvested deer before at a shot. What the heck, its Saturday so lets hunt until the sun sets...Glad I did because this buck came out at last light. Took the shot, buck looked like he was hit good but went over the ridge he was side hilling on. When I finally made it to where I thought he would be, he wasn't there... Crap, flashlight in hand, I backtracked the deer trail he was on and finally found blood. Looked a little more and he was piled up in some brush...Dang seasons over already! Luckily the kid has a tag to fill and the weather is moving in! Good luck out there fellas.
