Find the berry bushes. During August and September the bears load up on berries. Good luck!

They will be where ever the best food sources are at. An area that is covered with bears may not have any a year later.

Check any of the ridges between Big Bear Lake and Forest Falls. Look for bedding sign at the base of trees - looks like a small depression cleared of needles, cones, etc. Look for any areas with berries or scrub oaks. Wait for the acorns to start ripening, then pay close attention to the plants. You'll begin to notice when the acorns and berries are getting plucked off. Set up a treestand between the bedding/feeding areas.

Thanks DFG bear for the info, I am picking my older son up at 29 palms-for the deer opener, we will have bear tags as well, I'm taking my youngest to X9a- long story, but I have no time to pre scout, and looking for someone with some knowledge of the area to give me an area to base camp out of. Thanks Mike
