I use a browning A-Bolt in 25-06 my self! But sometimes they run into brush and they are hard to find!

I've taken deer with both a 25-06 and a 30-06. My dad uses a 7mm Mag. All rounds knocked em dead with correct shot placement.

What he said. As long as your chosen caliber is large enough to be legal, it comes down to what you have and what you can use effectively. Most long term hunters have used a variety of calibers.
I use a .308, but have used .270, 30-06, 7mm mag and even a .338 win mag.
