OK,yesterday I headed to an area I hadn't been in yet this year. There's two seperate areas with in this area connected by a nice funnel. Both areas are wooded and with the overcast skies and light rain conditions couldn't be better to search here. In the first area sign was slim to none, but I did manage to find a nice fresh 4pt. side.

Shed62.jpg

I close-up.

Shed623.jpg

After giving the area a good search and no more sheds I headed to the second area.I no sooner started here when I came across the two snapping turtles. Both turtles were about the same size and they were laying in a big mud puddle more or less. After dragging the one out I threw my last shed found down next to it for a little size comparison. That shed has about a 20" mainbeam and the turtle had some weight to it.

Snapper3.jpg

After the turtle incounter it was back to business.I headed uphill to a point where the deer like to bed and I've found sheds before. It didn't take long here before I spotted a shed, this one was alittle different.

Shed633.jpg

Mont_Co_Sika.jpg

Things were slow for a little while before anymore action.I was walking around a hillside when I started finding all kinds of fresh deer droppings.I wondered why til I realized it was a south facing slope and apparently the deer spent some time here during the snow days.A couple minutes later I almost stepped on my next shed for the day,a small Y shed.

Shed64.jpg

After extending my search out from this shed looking for more,I decided to head back towards where I found my little non-typical shed. After a few passes around the area I spotted a single tine sticking out of the leaves.I was proud of this find.

Shed65.jpg

This shed turned out to be a big 3pt. side. Here's another angle showing alittle more of the shed.

Shed653.jpg

After this find things were slow for a long time.I re-searched some of the ground I already covered and extended my search out covering more new ground.I then decided to drop down the hill from the point where I found my first shed here and search the ridge across from here.
I'm glad I did too,I was walking the edge of the ridge away from the point on this side when I found my next shed.At first I thought I found a shed that would give either of the singles from my big set a run for it's money.I thought I found the shed of all sheds, then I realized it was two sheds lined up with each other giving the appearance of one shed.I was alittle disappointed at first then back to flying high again.Only my second matched set laying together this year and not a bad looking set at that. This first pic is how I saw them for the first time.

Sheds66672.jpg

Sheds66673.jpg

Before I could even get the camera out for pics of the set I spotted this sticking out of the leaves 10yds. away.

Shed68.jpg

After the set my hands were getting pretty full trying to carry these sheds so I decided to head downhill and walk the creekbottom out.About halfway back to my truck walking the bottom I found my last one for this area.

Shed691.jpg

Shed692.jpg

The size of this last shed got me taking a closer look at this shed. The more I looked the more I believe this shed came from my P&Y buck I took close to this area back in 04.I found the other side fresh the year before I took the buck and this shed has definately been laying more then a year.I still haven't matched it up with the side I already have, but I will sometime soon.

After I got back to my truck I still had daylight to make a quick search of another area I wanted to search alsothis day.I had already searched this area before, but like this area it's open woods with a heavy cover of leaves as ground cover.About an hour of searching in this other area I found a shed I've been looking for almost all season long.It was the mate to the second shed I found this season back in Jan.

Shed704.jpg

After this find I thought my day was done for sheds. It was getting late and it was getting harder by the min. to see.I was getting ready to call it quits when I spotted some more tines.I had to take a few steps closer for a better look, sure enough it was a shed.A nice little 5pt.

Shed711.jpg

Shed71.jpg

Somewhere along the line I also found a little spike skull. It was old and chewed so I took a pic and left it lay.
Here's a pic of the days's finds.

Sheds626364656667686970and71.jpg

Almost forgot, this evening I took a walk across the road in a small woodlot and found another buck skull. This one had 3 on one side and a long curled up spike on the other side.

MULIE4EVER-the turtle shells with the full outter shell with color and shells I also find the bottoms to I spray a light coat of clear varnish on and keep in the house. The faded white shells mostly go with the majority of my sheds.

OK,I made another trip tuesday the 27th. and found another 7 sheds and 2 more skulls.Out of the 7 sheds 5 were old and only 2 fresh.
I stared the day off slow then things picked up for a little bit before they got slow again. My first find was an old chewed piece of antler.I didn't waste my time with a "as it layed" pic. After that first find my next find was a fresh 4pt. side

Shed721.jpg

My best find of the day.

Shed722.jpg

It was only a couple mins. after the fresh 4pt side and not 50yds. away I spotted another antler. At first I thought it was the mate to the 4pt. then realized grass had grown around the shed.It was obvious it was from last year and not the mate.

Shed73-1.jpg

After searching the area good for any more sheds I slowly worked my way further out.I found my next shed on the edge of some woods bordoring an open field. No doubt this one had laid for at least a year.

Shed74.jpg

Shed741.jpg

Things were looking better where I had just came from so I headed back that way.I searched an area out a different way this time then ended up the opposite side I just came from.
Here I came over a small hill and walked up on a small herd of deer with one being a small buck still carrying both sides. This was my first buck I've seen still carrying in over a month,he didn't stick around for pics.
Shortly after the buck sighting I spotted something white up ahead in the leaves and moved closer for a better look.An old 4pt. side in good shape with out chews.

Shed751.jpg

Shed75.jpg

I covered the area pretty good and after coming up with only one fresh shed I decided to move to another area.On my way out I came across a skull off a nice nice Y buck buried in the leaves.I took a couple pics and left it lay.

Skull8.jpg

I went back to where I started my season off back in Jan. and hit the wooded hillside where I knew there were some small singles still laying somewhere.
My plan worked out great there finding a small fresh 3pt. that later turned out to be a no match to my earlier finds here.

Shed76.jpg

Shed761.jpg

I covered that area for about another 2 hours with no more sheds, but found a dead 8 pointer.I found the hair and bones my last trip here from the buck, but never saw the head 30yds down the hill from the rest of the deer.

Skull91.jpg

After the dead 8 pointer I went back to another area I had already covered earlier hoping to match some singles up.Here I found one more old shed and ending my day there.

Shed78.jpg

Shed781.jpg

Here's a group pic of my sheds for the day.At least 3 of the old sheds were in good shape with out any chews.

Saturday evening at the last minute I decided to do a little shed hunting local.Like a fool I went out looking in shorts. The area I went to was the first time I've ever been there and it was thick.
I had been looking for about an hour and started thinking maybe somebody else had already been in there before me when I spotted a shed about 30yds away.As I was walking over for a better look I almost stepped on a second shed. Both sheds were only laying about 10" apart.

Here's the first shed,a nice fresh 3pt side.

Shed_79_1_.jpg

This second one was the little one I posted the pics of earlier.

Shed_80_2_.jpg

Shed_80.jpg

Here's a pic of both sheds "as they layed".

Shed_79_80_1_.jpg

After finding these 2 sheds my only other find was a little dead spike skull.

Sunday morning I was back out again for a all day hunt.My areas for the day was a spot I found last year and this was my first trip in there this year.
At my first stop all I found were 2 sheds a fresh and an old shed then another dead spike buck.

I don't know how I missed this one last year.Where it was found and the way it was laying I should have found this one fresh last year.It was a pretty big 3pt side.

Shed811.jpg

Shed812.jpg

My next one was across the road from this one in a different patch of woods. One of the few sheds I've found that has a split brow tine. You can see the split brow tine better in the group pic with all my shed finds for the day.I searched the rest of the area pretty good hoping to match this one up.All I came up with was a dead 6 pointer,it looked like a road kill that ran off and died.

Shed822.jpg

Shed82.jpg

Skull12.jpg

After the dead 6pt. I moved further up the creek I was following.I no sooner left my truck and at the bottom of the small hill 50yds from the road I found a fresh 3pt shed laying off a trail.

Shed83.jpg

Things were looking good here.I gave the area a quick look then started heading to the right downstream. The area was basically a creekbottom with a small flat at the bottom then a hill.Every so often a small finger would run out the side or at the top of the hill there would be a small flat. The hill wasn't too big maybe only 100yds up at the most.
About 100yds after finding that first shed I spotted what looked like an old bone at the base of the hill where it came down to a point.Wasn't a bone, but an old chewed shed that saw better days.No "as it layed" for this one.
Around the turn from this one there was an open grassy area.I bumped some deer from here and had a couple sit tight and let me get about 40yds. with out taking off, pretty cool!
About 3/4 of the way through this field I spotted an old shed.

Shed852.jpg

Shed85.jpg

After the grassy field I went up hill and hit one of those small flats on top. These little flats produce more sheds for me then anywhere else in the open woods.I wasn't disappointed with this one either.I spotted this guy about 50yds away.

Shed862.jpg

Shed864.jpg

Still on that same flat and maybe 75yds away I spotted a couple sheds laying together this time. These turned out to be my 3rd matched set laying together for the year.I love it when you come up on a set laying together.

Shed87881.jpg

Shed87882.jpg

Shed8788.jpg

I had a little dry run after the set before I found anymore. My next find I had to look twice when I first spotted it.It blended in pretty good and at first thought I was seeing things.

Shed891.jpg

Shed892.jpg

I gave the entire area a half decent looking after my last find and came up empty so I decided to move again. This time I moved downstream short of where I started the day off.It was about 2 miles further up from my first spot and about a mile down from this last spot.
It didn't take long here and I found a fresh 4pt side.I didn't realize it at the time, but this shed matched up to the single I found on the flat with the set.I had no clue til I got home and layed all the sheds out on the floor.

Shed90.jpg

Shed901.jpg

No more sheds after that last find except another one of those old and chewed up sheds,no "as they lay" pics for this one either.Still counts as a shed though.

I did alot of walking today for my best shed day in numbers for the year finding 11 sheds and 2 dead buck.I did find another old chewed spike skull that I didn't count, looked like it had been laying around for a couple years.

Life is good guys!! I made another trip today and hit 100 sheds for the year.
<

I started my day needing 9 sheds and ended up finding 11.I found 2 matched sets and matched up a single I found earlier in the year.I also found another good one meaning I'll being spending the day in that area trying to find the mate.

My day started off super slow not finding a shed for 3 hours. When I did find one it was an old chewed shed.

Shed92.jpg

After finding my only shed in this area that I thought would be good for at least a half dozen I moved to another area.I wasn't in this new area long when I found another old one.

Shed93.jpg

I hadn't moved 50yds across the flat I was on when I spotted more tines. This was only a small area and I hadn't expected anything like these.

Sheds94953.jpg

Sheds9495.jpg

1st_Set_04-03.jpg

After finding the set I worked my way back out to move to another area.In this new area things started off nice finding my first antler here after about a 1/2 hour.

Shed97.jpg

Shed972.jpg

I no sooner started going again and I spotted this guy at a distance.

Shed961.jpg

After getting a little closer I know I've got the mate to this shed back at home.Funny both antlers to the set had chews and were found in different areas. The shed found before this one was found in between where both these were found and it didn't have a chew.

Shed96.jpg

Things slowed down for awhile before anymore action. My next find was an old chewed shed laying on a log.

Shed981.jpg

Shed98.jpg

After the chewed shed things were still slow for a little bit.My next find I thought at first was the mate to one I had at home.Turns out it was the mate to my first shed found at this spot today.

Shed993.jpg

Shed99.jpg

One more to go and I hit 100 sheds in a season for my forth year in a row.Didn't take long at all and was this one a nice one.I spotted this guy about 50yds ahead and all I saw were tines.

Shed100.jpg

Shed1004.jpg

Shed1001.jpg

While doing a grid pattern search for the mate to my last find I ended up finding 2 more smaller sheds. There's alot of ground here so another day is in order to find the mate to this one.

The first shed was a little old 3pt. side.

Shed101.jpg

Then a little fresh 3pt. side.

Shed102.jpg

Here's a group shot of the day's finds. The left antler in the set on top left was found earlier in the year.

woah, you just keep pilling em up, great work. That one older shed looks like it has been picked over by birds and rodants pretty good. I wish finding sheds in VT was easier, i've been out 3 times and put up a big skunk job! Keep at it i love checking out your finds!
