I found one shed Tues. of last week that I haven't updated on here.

Shed45.jpg

And one other shed last Wed. before I had to go back to work again. With the buck carrying extra long this year and finding fresh rubs and scape's much later in the year I have to wonder about this find. This was one of the only sheds I've ever found close to a rub.

Back at it again today I managed to add 4 more sheds to the pile,3 fresh and another old one.

First find of the day.

After finding that first find which took about 2 hours it only took about 2 mins to find the next one. This one was so rough I didn't bother with an ATL.
Today I was giving the area where I hit (?) the buck back in October one final search.I'd already searched out in all other directions the buck could have gone and today was searching the last possible route if he was indeed hit and the shot fatal.
A couple years ago in these same woods I came across a dumping ground where the owner throws the rib cages and skulls from their deer kills.Forgetting all about the little dump site when I saw a rib cage from a distance I got a little excited. At first I thought it was from a monster buck and I'd soon be looking over my missing buck.Turns out there was 4 or 5 doe remains and a little spike.
I knew nobody would mind me taking the spike so I added another dead buck to my already pile of them.
It was awhile before my next find and it was another little fresh spike buck, followed up 30yds away with an old 3pt. skull.I've posted too many ATL pics of dead buck I decided to pass on these today.

After coming to the end of this area I wanted to search I turned around and covered some new ground on the way back out.I made it about half way out when I spotted another anter. At first I thought it was a match to the first antler, but now I don't think so.

Shed48.jpg

Shed48-2.jpg

Shed48-3.jpg

I spent a little extra time making a couple passes thur this area hoping to find the match with no luck.I started heading back out again when 30 yds from that last antler I spotted tines again. You would think this one was the mate to the last one,but not to be.

Finally making it back to the jeep that was it for the finds today.

Found 2 more today and both were fresh ones. :D The day started off idea shedding conditions.A wet ground and overcast skies. The area I searched is a wooded area with a thick ground cover of leaves. I'd been searching for a couple hours when I spotted my first of the day.

Shortly after finding that first shed the sun came out.It went from me seeing in any direction to a glare on everything. What a difference between an overcast day and a bright sunny day. Anyway,I was at the bottom of a hill walking along a creek when I almost walked past my next find.

Shed52.jpg

Shed52-2.jpg

I continued down following the creek hoping for a match when this blue heron let me get pretty close before taking off.

That was about it for the day.Another 6 hours of looking and 2 more sheds on the pile.

Here's the 2 sheds at home

Deershed where are you from? you stated suburbia deer. Are you able to archery hunt there? Seems like the population could use some thinning.

I could come visit and do my part to help the situation. I am always willing to help.

With all the sniper hunts and managed hunts going on around the county my shed hunting is suffering enough.

I made it out today and green up is coming faster than I'd like. My first goal for the day was to have my first double digit shed day of the year, yeah right not even close.I did find 4 though. My second goal for the day was to match up the one shed I found on March 17th.That shed has a 10" plus g-2.

The far right shed.

Sheds32333434.jpg

After looking for about an hour I spotted my first shed,I knew right away what I was looking at. btw-This is a cut corn field ready to be taken over by weeds.

Shed53.jpg

Shed53-3.jpg

And finally

shed53-5.jpg

Here's the 2 together at home.

Sheds53.jpg

I had only walked a short distance after finding this shed when I spotted what I thought was another shed about 100yds away.To save a walk I zoomed in with the camera and took a pic.Another fresh one.

Shed54.jpg

Shed54-2.jpg

Things looked like they would pick up then it was another couple hours before my next find. This was an old one laying in a depression not far from where the first 2 antlers of the day were found.

Shed55-2.jpg

Shed55.jpg

After this shed I searched another couple hours in this area with no more finds. I then headed for another area that treated me good the first year I searched it.The following year a farmer bordering this property shot all kinds of deer using crop damage permits.I walked this area for a couple hours finding one small fresh Y shed.

Shed56-2.jpg

Shed56-3.jpg

Here's all 4 sheds for the day.

I added 3 more old ones to the count today.
The day started off fast finding my first two sheds fresh into the hunt minutes apart. As a matter of fact I thought I had a matched set at first.
I spotted the first shed and looked around and spotted the second antler just over the hill.I thought for sure this was a good sign of one of those hot days to come. And I was in the area where I saw the 2 big buck with the 3 acre yards and the million dollar homes.

The first one.

Shed57-2.jpg

Shed57.jpg

Off to the left and over hill layed this one,not 40yds apart.

Shed58.jpg

Looking back up the hill at it.

Shed58-2.jpg

Shed58-3.jpg

After the fast start I searched for the next 3 hours not finding any more. While I was still in this area I saw another little piebald.
It wasn't hard keeping track of where she was at running with this herd of deer.

Another_Piebald.jpg

Another_Piebald_2.jpg

Another_Piebald_3.jpg

After giving up on this area I headed to another area.Like the first spot I found my first antler minutes after starting my search here, then another 1 1/2 not finding any more.

I made it back out again today,or yesterday how ever you look at it.(tues.)Added another 4 sheds to the pile,3 fresh and an old chewed one.

My first stop was back to the area where I found the knife blade shed to see if I could find it's mate.No luck with it,but found the mate to the spike I found there. Before that find though I found this old one.

Shed61.jpg

Shed61-3.jpg

I only found 2 fresh sheds in this area earlier so you'd think the odds would be I'd find the mate off a average size shed before a smaller spike.
My next find didn't take too long after the old one.I almost stepped on this one. This Y shed was the mate to the spike I found here.

Shed60.jpg

Shed60-3.jpg

After searching this area for awhile and satisfied I wouldn't find the missing mate I moved to another area.I'd been in this area for about an hour when I spotted tines.

Shed62.jpg

Shed62-2.jpg

Shed62-3.jpg

I was already doing a grid pattern search on this flat where the last shed came from so I continued on.I only made 2 more short passes when I spotted my second antler in this area.

Shed63.jpg

Shed63-2.jpg

Shed63-4.jpg

I searched the rest of this flat and checked 2 other flats further down the line with no more luck.It was getting late so I called it a day.

Here's my finds for the day.Tomorrow I'll get a pic of the set I matched up today.

Sheds60616263.jpg

Almost forgot,I ran into an old friend today.

Nice pic's DeerShed! I love the blue heron pictures. You've made some real progress since I last checked in....that's a great set that you matched up with the long G2's. I can't believe how fast the greenup has hit you out there. Congrats on your finds

It's getting green here pretty fast,I don't know how much longer I'll be able to look.I made 2 more trips since last posting on here.A short trip today local across the line into Pa. finding two sheds,an old one and a fresh spike. And another trip the other day only finding one old chewed shed for alot of walking that day.

Here's the old shed from my trip the other day.

Shed64-2.jpg

Here's that same one at home with the Y shed I found the trip before that, that matched up with a spike I found earlier in the year.

Sheds6426.jpg

Today's trip was only a couple hours long if that long finding 2 more.

My first find for today.

Then this old one.

Holy crap the squirrels really had their way with that last one. Nice finds once again DS! That spike and Y shed set is a mirror image of the set that i came up with this year. It's mind boggling how some of the big ones can be near impossible to match up and then you go and find the match to a spike! Congrats to ya

Last week I managed to find 2 sheds then again today 2 more. Here's last weeks finds.

An old chewed one.

Shed67-2.jpg

Shed67-3.jpg

Then this one.

Shed68-2.jpg

Shed68.jpg

Shed68-4.jpg

Today it was sheds and mushrooms, first mushrooms then sheds.
I usually don't find too many sheds in my mushroom areas so first it was off to check on the mushrooms. The last couple years my mushroom finds have been really low.I'm either late or about the time they should be popping up we get a cold front move through. With the rain we got and the temps. in the 60's at night things were looking good for this year. I no sooner climbed the low bank after parking when I spotted some mushrooms. They were the caps or dog things so I left them go figuring I'd pick them on my way out.It wasn't long into my search I started finding some corn combs and over the next couple hours I got enough to fill a plastic grocery bag half full.

Mushrooms-1.jpg

Mushrooms-2.jpg

Mushrooms-3.jpg

Mushrooms-6.jpg

After leaving this area before I went to my shed area there was a working orchard I wanted to check for mushrooms first. At the orchard I went straight to some pushed over apple trees I knew were there. It wasn't til I was about half way through checking the pushed over trees that I found what I was looking for.

Mushrooms-7.jpg

Mushrooms-9.jpg

Mushrooms-8.jpg

I probably got about 50 of these big yellow ones before my dead trees ran out. Some of these mushrooms were just starting to pop out of the ground.A couple I had to dig grass and dirt to get to them. Now I could head for the area I wanted to search for sheds. Like with the mushrooms I had to climb another small bank to enter the woods and on top I spotted a shed not 20yds. into the woods.I couldn't believe my luck here.

It was an old busted off antler.

Shed69-2.jpg

Shed69.jpg

After finding the busted off antler it was about 45 mins. later while walking through a pine thicket I spotted another fresh antler.

Shed70.jpg

Shed70-2.jpg

Shed70-3.jpg

Shed70-4.jpg

I looked for about another hour for the last shed's mate or others and came up empty.I could search that area another full day and probably still not find it.Too many areas too green and too many places it could be.

Here's my mixed bag of mushrooms and sheds.

Hmmm Deershed...your doe friend doesn't look healthy.
<
