Dept. Of Fish And Game To Hold Public Meetings Regarding Hatchery And Stocking Program

8/29/08

DFG, with USFWS, will evaluate effects of hatcheries and fish stocking

The California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will hold two public meetings in September to help evaluate its hatchery and stocking program. The meetings, scheduled in Carson and Sacramento, will allow for public input as DFG and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) develop a joint Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) to assess the potential effects of fish stocking on the state's aquatic resources and natural environment.

DFG has been providing recreational fishing opportunities to anglers for more than 100 years. Through its hatcheries and fish stocking program, DFG is responsible for stocking salmon, trout and other fish in lakes and rivers throughout California. USFWS provides funding to DFG for inland trout and Mad Riversteelhead portion of this program.

DFG and USFWS invite all interested parties to attend one or both of the open-house style meetings to learn more about the EIR/EIS and possible future changes to the hatcheries and fish stocking program. Public input gathered at the meetings will be considered when preparing the alternatives and analysis for the EIR/EIS.

The meetings will be held:
Monday, Sept. 8, 2008 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Tsakopoulos Library Galleria, Main Hall
828 "I" Street, Sacramento, Calif. 95814

and

Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Carson Community Center, Adult Activity Room
3 Civic Plaza Drive, Carson, Calif. 90745
