DFG Extends Comment Period for Draft Strategic Trout Management Plan
Contact: Jim Hopelain, (916) 445-3597
The California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is extending the review period for the draft Strategic Plan for Trout Management an additional 45 days. The DFG will be accepting comments through Jan. 31, 2003. The previous comment period ended Dec. 15, 2002.
The DFG is developing a strategic plan for trout management and is requesting comments from individuals or groups interested in California's trout resources. The strategic plan, currently in draft form, identifies key overarching issues and concerns regarding the future of trout resources and fisheries in California. This initial phase of the planning effort does not directly address specific waters within the state, but rather it presents management strategies and goals on a statewide level. The goals and strategies have been developed around two themes that reflect the general mission of DFG habitat and native species protection and management, and public use, including recreational angling.
The plan is available on the DFG web site (www.dfg.ca.gov) or by calling (916) 445-3430 for a printed copy. All comments received by Jan. 31, 2003 will be considered for the final draft. Address comments to Dr. Ed Pert by email at epert@dfg.ca.gov, or at CA Department of Fish and Game, Fisheries Programs Branch, 1812 Ninth Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
